Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and committed individual to join our team as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students within our school. The DSL will lead on all aspects of safeguarding, working closely with staff, external agencies, and families to ensure that all students are safe from harm and have access to the support they need. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage all aspects of safeguarding across the school, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and guidelines. Act as the primary point of contact for all safeguarding concerns, providing support, guidance, and direction to staff. Oversee the implementation of the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective. Make referrals to external agencies when necessary and ensure appropriate follow-up and monitoring. Provide regular training and updates to staff on safeguarding issues, including recognising signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date safeguarding records. Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and other professionals to create a culture of safeguarding within the school. Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings (e.g., child protection conferences) as required. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safeguarding strategies and policies. Support students in need by providing or coordinating appropriate interventions and support services. Ensure the school’s approach to safeguarding is embedded within the curriculum and school ethos. Key Requirements: Experience working within a safeguarding role, ideally within an education setting. Sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures, child protection legislation, and best practices. Strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people, particularly in relation to safeguarding concerns. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and external agencies. A calm, empathetic approach, with the ability to manage sensitive and challenging situations. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage a varied workload. A commitment to promoting equality and diversity within the school environment. Relevant safeguarding qualifications (e.g., Designated Safeguarding Lead training, Safeguarding Level 3) or a willingness to complete them. Desirable: Experience in a similar DSL role in a secondary school or sixth form. Knowledge of online safety and its implications for students.
