Operations Team Coach – Water Response (Inverness/Dornoch)
Apply locations Inverness Area (Geog) Dornoch Area Office and Depot Inverness & North Area
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
How’s this for job satisfaction: at Scottish Water we look after Scotland's most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time.
Our Water Response teams carry out over 20,000 repairs every year to Scotland’s water network. From burst mains to valve maintenance and lead pipe replacements, the team plays a vital role in keeping Scotland’s water flowing.
Sound good? We’re looking for an Operations Team Coach to join our team, working in the Inverness and Dornoch areas.
What you’ll be doing
As Operations Team Coach, you’ll be right at the heart of it all, supporting the Team Leader and driving the team’s success. You’ll oversee work scheduling and resource allocation, making sure repairs are completed safely, on time and in full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
You’ll lead the way in delivering great customer service. Whether it’s managing customer queries, handling escalations, or resolving service issues, you’ll work to keep service disruptions to a minimum whilst ensuring we’re providing the reliable services our customers count on.
You’ll set the tone for the team, leading by example as a role model and mentor. Through My Story - our approach to performance and development - you’ll help your team grow, achieve their objectives, and complete learning plans.
And you won’t just focus on today – you’re also looking ahead to see how we can do things better. With a sharp eye for efficiency, you’ll identify areas for improvement, tackle inefficiencies, and lead change initiatives that help the team thrive.
What you’ll need:
You’ll bring hands-on experience in field operations, ideally within the water or utilities sector, and you’ll know all about the best ways to approach our repairs whilst putting health and safety at the forefront of everything we do.
Whether it’s using works management tools like Salesforce, analysing data, or working with Microsoft Office, you’re confident with technology and know how to turn information into actionable insights.
As a natural leader, you have a talent for bringing out the best in others. Building strong relationships comes easily, and you’ve led teams before and understand what it takes to manage people effectively. Communication is key – whether it’s chatting face-to-face, firing off emails or leading a team meeting, you know how to keep everyone engaged and in the loop.
A full, clean driving licence is non-negotiable, as you’ll need to travel around sites in the Inverness and Dornoch areas, but we’ll provide the wheels. You’ll take your turn on the standby rota for out-of-hours work too.
What you’ll get
This is a full time (35 hours per week) role with some standby requirements. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £33,560. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £44,140.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Tuesday 17 December. Please include a Cover Letter with your application outlining why you’d be a great fit for this role.
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
