UWCSEA Dover has a vacancy for a Relief Food & Nutrition Technician, working on an ad-hoc basis to cover sickness and unplanned leave as needed. The incumbent will assist in all areas of Food and Nutrition, including kitchen preparation and setup for classes, liaising with suppliers, and supporting teachers in the classroom kitchen during lessons to ensure a safe and productive environment for all. They will also provide support to food educators when the kitchen is used for activities, lessons, and community programs.
Main Responsibilities
* Management and preparation of kitchen equipment and food requests.
* Assist teaching staff during lessons.
* Ensure a safe, hygienic and well maintained Food and Nutrition kitchen.
* Provide support with the development and setting up of the Food and Nutrition room and work effectively with the providers.
* Manage the schedule and planning of the facility for bookings and programmes if and when required.
* Assist with the Risk Management of the Food and Nutrition room and accompanying SOP procedures.
* Perform administrative duties such as but not limited to preparing materials for lessons and individual order lists, if and when required.
* Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs with similar levels of responsibility and complexity to the assigned job grade as may be reasonably requested by the line manager and/or the College.
Person Specifications
* Related qualifications and/or experience in Food Science or a food-oriented environment, ideally within a school environment.
* Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar capacity.
* Food Preparation & Safety – Knowledge of safe food handling, hygiene regulations, and basic food preparation techniques.
* Classroom & Kitchen Support – Ability to assist in practical food lessons, including setting up equipment and ingredients.
* Organizational Skills – Managing stock levels, ordering supplies, and ensuring the kitchen is well-maintained, if and when needed.
* Technical Knowledge – Familiarity with kitchen appliances, their maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
* Health & Safety Awareness – Understanding of risk assessments and ensuring a safe working environment for students.
* Cleaning & Maintenance – Ensuring cleanliness and proper sanitation of equipment and workspaces.
* Teamwork & Collaboration – Working closely with teachers, students, and school staff to support learning.
* Time Management – Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment, especially during practical lessons.
* Communication Skills – Clear and professional interaction with students and staff.
* Adaptable & Flexible – Willing to support different lesson needs and adjust to changing tasks.
* Proactive & Resourceful – Ability to anticipate needs and solve minor issues independently.
