Job Description
Portsmouth Radiotherapy department covers a wide catchment area, treating patients from Portsmouth, Southampton, West Sussex, and the Isle of Wight. As well as a daily routine of scanning, planning, and treating patients, we also offer an out of hours service at the weekends.
We would love to welcome radiographers looking to relocate to Portsmouth to apply for this Therapeutic Radiographer post. For international radiographers we can offer a relocation package to support your transition if joining by March 2025. (We will be recruiting for new Graduates next Spring)
You will find a motivated, enthusiastic and forward-thinking department, who won the Society of Radiographers Regional South East Team of the Year 2023. We are keen to support you in your own development and work hard to improve the quality of treatment for our patients.
We offer all new recruits preceptorship as per AHP/HCPC's guidance. The process can be taken over 6-12 months depending on point of entry and previous experiences. Our preceptorship model includes 1:1 discussion meetings with preceptor, assigned education sessions, reflective practice, clinical activities and patient case studies, all combined to meet development objectives and support the transition from newly qualified into a fully confident and competent practitioner.
More recently the team have created a staff committee; the Committee has helped drive the implementation of flexible working across the whole department where we now offer 7.5hr or 9.5hr shifts over 2/3/4/5 days per week.
We have four TrueBeam 3.0 linear accelerators which include advanced IGRT imaging such as online 4DCBCT, iCBCT and triggered imaging. 6DOF couches in use for H+N, upper GI and Lung SABR patients, alongside abdomen compression immobilisation. We have a wide-bore Siemens GOSIM CT scanner, alongside Brachytherapy, Orthovoltage and on-treatment review services. All systems are linked together using ARIA V15.6 in a completely paperless department.
We have trained 3 Consultant Radiographers in Breast/Urology/Palliative and are are actively developing new ACP opportunities. We have a number of apprentice radiographer undergraduate and postgraduate roles in post and have recently invested in enhanced practice roles supporting progression from graduate all the way to consultant radiographer or lead radiographer.
Job Summary
* Undertake radiotherapy treatment and planning, on a rotational basis, using ionising radiation to treat patients with cancer or benign disease, with both curative and palliative intent.
* Carry out radiotherapy procedures using a variety of specialised high energy radiation equipment, operation in conjunction with radiotherapy IT systems and various imaging systems.
* Liaise with medical, physics, nursing, clerical and support staff within the department, and throughout the institution, to ensure optimum patient care.

Qualifications
Essential
* BSc (Hons) degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Radiography
* HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer
* English Language IELTS score 7
Experience
* Experience of a range of radiotherapy treatment and planning techniques
* Experience of using a range of radiotherapy planning and treatment equipment
* Experience of different IGRT techniques including CBCT and MV/kV imaging
Skills and Knowledge
* Knowledge of modern radiotherapy linacs, including IGRT equipment
* Knowledge of CT scanner equipment and the Radiographers role in pre-treatment preparations
* Knowledge of common radiotherapy software such as virtual simulation, record & verify and treatment imaging systems
* Knowledge of ISO9001 quality systems and ability to work within a quality driven environment
* Knowledge of national radiotherapy guidance documentation such as On Target, NICE guidelines and IRMER
