Job summary The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a Consultant in Cellular Pathology. The appointed candidates will join an existing team of 6 senior medical staff including Consultants. On joining the department, you will become part of a well-established, friendly team and will help us continue to drive forward improvements in the service that we provide to our patients. As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision to our junior colleagues. The department has UKAS accreditation to ISO151589:2012. It processes and reports, per year, approximately 23,000 surgical specimens (approximately 18,000 for the NHS with 16% from general practitioners), 1200 diagnostic cytopathology specimens and 1000 semenology samples. These arise from a population of approximately 300,000. Main duties of the job The laboratory was designed in collaboration with the staff and has modern equipment including height adjustable dissection benches and a recently introduced Sakura Tissue-Tek Prisma Plus automated slide stainer and coverslipper, and a Dako Omnis immunohistochemistry immunostainer. Another similar immunostainer is being brought in to meet the increasing demands of immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology.
