The Role
The Lead Engineer will work in a challenging, hands-on environment supporting a Federal agency and other specialized customers in support of National Cyber Protection System (NCPS) initiatives. This role will work seamlessly with the ISSM and other IT Security staff to create a holistic and fully integrated IT Security organization for the overarching Program.

Location
This is a fully remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S. and requires U.S. Citizenship with eligibility to obtain government security clearances necessary for this role.
The Main Responsibilities
1. Participate in the planning, design and implementation of enterprise security architecture.
2. Provide administrative support for information security systems and applications, specifically providing DNS support via Infoblox platform.
3. Serve as a team member to support the analysis of general network technical problems and provide recommendations and technical support in solving these problems.
4. Lead and contribute to DNS project status meetings and wrap-up/post-mortems.
5. Develop scripts and automations as necessary to import/verify data processing.
6. Technical input to major service outage root cause analysis and corrective action reports consumed by Lumen and customer agencies teams.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Required Qualifications
1. 10+ years of experience in Information Systems, Networking, Web Infrastructure, or other IT-related field with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
2. Hands-on experience leading DNS & DDI implementation and support in an IT role.
3. Leadership skill experience to be comfortable in driving technical project meetings, and develop collaborative, scalable solutions presentable to technical and executive levels.
4. Providing constructive experience guidance on potentially compromising solutions delivery scenarios putting DDI services at risk.
5. Must be available 24/7 for Network Outages and Maintenance window work and for rotating on-call or work after hours as needed.
6. Strong architecture and operations technical skills in understanding of information systems, network protocols, firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, log management, network behavior analysis, vulnerability scan tools and processes.
7. Demonstrated ability to perform in high pressure scenarios, demonstrating a sense of urgency while simultaneously managing competing priorities.
8. Proactive approach to providing status updates on assigned work and preparing for and estimating turnaround times for future deliverables.
9. Willingness to try, learn and mentor with the team, enhancing what Lumen offers with new ideas and technologies.
10. U.S. Citizenship and active Public Trust suitability or eligibility to obtain required clearances upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Significant experience with server management and solution integration into large enterprise and/or public networking environments.
2. Extensive experience in DNS, DHCP, IPAM “DDI” related services - Configuration and Management.
3. In-depth knowledge of DNS & DNSSEC/BIND/EDNS0/ECSE3A/RPZ, NTP, IPAM, DHCP, NAT, IPv6 & IPv4.
4. Experience with Infoblox architecture and implementation or comparable DNS platform.
5. Working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Linux/Unix, service management and networking protocols for BGP, OSPF, Anycast, GTM/LTM, CDNs, forward and reverse proxy techniques and using APIs in large telecommunications organizations are a plus.
6. Deep understanding of Information Assurance frameworks and Federal information security requirements (e.g. ISO 27000 series, NIST 800-53 and 800-171, NIST RMF, NIST Cybersecurity Framework).
7. Previous work experience with Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community, or other government agency (e.g. DHS, DOE, Veterans Affairs, etc.).
8. Demonstrate an understanding of balancing security risk, cost, and delivery requirements.
9. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, demonstrating a creative and strategic approach to problem solving.
