Autism Anglia is a well-established independent charity. We have opportunities available for Support Workers on a part-time basis, working from our Beacon Way residence, based in Colchester.
The successful Intensive Support Worker will assist people who are within the autistic spectrum, enabling them to maximize their potential and develop life skills across multiple activities. The successful Support Worker will work as part of a team to help those in your care achieve their own life goals through person-centred planning.
This role is well suited to someone with previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant or Carer, caring for Autistic individuals or those with Learning Disabilities in a healthcare setting.
Autism Anglia offers an extensive induction on the commencement of employment and is dedicated to ongoing training and professional development.
Beacon Way:
Beacon Way is a private residence accommodating individuals within the autistic spectrum, some with additional learning disabilities. The house is part of Autism Anglia’s Adult services, including planning and attending person-centered annual holidays and days out, enabling all individuals to participate in various physical activities such as walking, swimming, shopping, and general socialising in the wider community.
Support workers at Beacon recognize the aspirations of those we support and work towards enabling them to achieve their own life plans and develop life skills. Working through a person-centered approach and planning, this will include being actively involved in empowering them to make individual choices about their everyday living.
The role:
1. Personalising activities to suit and benefit the person you will be supporting while delivering a high standard of care and support.
2. Driving out to locations to ensure personalised activities can be fulfilled.
3. Supporting individuals with personal care needs, health, and hygiene, with a focus on developing daily life skills.
4. Updating personalised documentation as required and maintaining the individual’s care and support plans.
5. Working alongside the Team Leader in the day-to-day management of the service and deputising in their absence.
6. Developing and maintaining up-to-date individualised support plans appropriate to the specific needs of the individual to encourage development to their full potential.
7. Supporting colleagues to ensure a high standard of delivery, recognising positive achievements for individuals and staff.
8. Supporting/enabling individuals in daily activities which could include swimming, cycling, walking, tennis, and other community-based activities.
Applications are welcome from Support workers with the following:
1. Previous experience working as a Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, or Carer, preferably with Autism or Learning Disabilities.
2. Ability to identify the needs, wishes, and aspirations of individuals who may have communication needs.
3. Experience in working with people with Autism, learning disabilities, and intensive behavioural support.
4. Experience with activity coordination and knowledge of opportunities in surrounding areas.
5. Good range of communication skills.
6. Experience working within a health and social care environment.
7. It is essential that the successful applicant holds a full driving licence.
