Our Transmission and Distribution team are currently seeking graduates to work in our Edinburgh or Glasgow office from June 25 onwards. About our Team Committed to addressing the complete spectrum of energy challenges, we offer expertise in the following sectors: renewable energy (wind and solar), Battery Energy Storage Systems, hydropower, bioenergy (including energy from waste), energy efficiency and carbon management, thermal power generation, nuclear power and transmission and distribution. The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team provides a range of services from the initial concept through Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design, HVDC Systems and Interconnectors including overseas links. We provide development, design, maintenance and project management for all services and comply with client and other stakeholder's quality, technical, commercial, safety and environmental requirements. Regular site visits to construction sites for substations, cables and overhead lines would be a feature of this role. AECOM are part of the Great Grid Upgrade programme in a Joint Venture with Arup. As a partner within the programme we are responsible for delivering design, environment and consenting services within the strategic programme of works. An example of the type of projects being delivered through the partnership by AECOM Arup is below. AECOM Arup have been selected as the design, environmental and consenting partner to lead on a complex project that has to deliver a significant new overhead line circuit that connects a number of new and extended substations on the east coast of England. This work will require a multi-discipline team of engineers, environmental consultants and planning & consent consultants to determine the best option for this new overhead line. This will require detailed analysis of various routes taking in to account multiple factors such as terrain, ground conditions, weather conditions etc when looking at the sighting of new overhead line towers. As part of this analysis there may be requirements to provide sections of underground EHV cables where the route crosses sensitive environments such as National Parks or Areas of Outstanding Beauty. There will be new substations along this route that will require siting studies followed by detailed design for the new HV plant solution, protection and control, civil engineering requirements and associated ancillary services. The design will progress to a detailed design which the construction partners will then be responsible for constructing. As the design, environment and consenting partner we will be involved through out the construction phase to ensure any design development or alterations are undertaken in a timely manner. Here's what you'll do: The successful candidate will primarily be working on transmission assets in the Republic of Ireland or the UK, but the team is working on multiple projects in Europe and further afield and some international travel may be required. Regular site visits to construction sites for substations, cables and overhead lines would be a feature of this role. We encourage membership and networking activities in industry bodies such as Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), IEI, CIGRE. When a graduate starts with AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development proposals. Their initial role be involved in a selection of activities potentially including:
* Conceptual Design
* Power Network Design, Power System Analysis & Studies using DigSILENT, PSCAD, PSS/E etc.
* Load & Demand Forecasting, System Stability Analysis
* Substation Site Selection
* Substation Design
* Ground Resistivity Measurement & Earthing System Design using CDE3D Substation & Switchyard Layout Visualization
* Lightning Protection System Design
* Overhead & Underground Cable System Design
* Interconnector Studies & Design
* Transformer & Switchgear Selection & Installation
* Options Selection & Evaluation
* Value Engineering
* HV Cable studies using CYMCAP
