Job Title – Trainee Sign Maker Wage - £12.21 p/h (minimum wage) - subject to increase as your skills and responsibilities develop. Working hours are from Monday - Friday 8:00 - 16:30. Occasional overtime is required, this could be early mornings or evening / night work depending on clients request. About Us: At Atlas Graphics SW Ltd, based in Plymouth, we’re a small, friendly, and ever evolving sign-making business with a reputation for quality and customer satisfaction. Since opening in 2004, we’ve expanded both our machinery and our team, and we’re now looking for an eager, hardworking Trainee Sign Maker to join us. We specialise in bespoke signage and graphics, including office signs, shop fronts, large scale wall wraps, vehicle graphics, window displays, as well as smaller scale print, such as stickers, labels, business cards and flyers. Due to the bespoke nature of the job, the days are always varied, keeping things interesting The Role: As a Trainee Sign Maker, you’ll start with learning the basics of our day-to-day duties and assisting in production. As you gain confidence, your role will evolve over time to include a variety of tasks across all aspects of the business. This could be anything from installing vehicle graphics, to assisting with large scale sign installations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to learn and grow within a small, supportive team. Your responsibilities will expand as your skills progress. Training & Development: Transferrable skills are great, but don’t worry if you don’t have prior experience in sign making — we provide full training and will support in all areas. We believe in promoting from within and supporting our team members to become self-sufficient. You’ll be taught how to use specific tools, specialised software for design tasks, work with machinery, and communicate effectively with clients. As you grow in the role, you’ll have the chance to take on more responsibility and largely manage your own workload whilst still supporting the team. Key Responsibilities: Sign Making and Production: You will assist in the preparation of a range of sign board materials as well as printed and cut graphics for signs, graphics and vehicles. We produce a large number of signs to be sent via courier, so you will also assist in the safe packaging of these products. Installation: You will assist our fitting team in the installation of various projects where required. As your skills progress, you would have the opportunity to take on some of these projects on your own. There will be times where access equipment is required, such as ladders, scaffold towers, scissor lifts and boom lifts. Any required training and certification will be provided. Machinery Operation: After you’ve gained experience in the other areas, you will have the opportunity to learn how to operate our machines, including various printers, laser cutters and large digital CNC router. Artwork & Design: Depending on experience, you would start with learning to prepare files for production and design smaller products such as boat names, labels, or custom signage. While prior design experience is a plus, we will support you to handle these tasks with confidence. Required Skills: Full UK Driver’s License Physical Fitness: To safely lift and handle heavy signage. You’ll have full support and all required access and safety equipment will be provided. IT Skills: Basic computer skills, including using emails. Willingness to Learn: Take on new tasks as your skills develop. We’re a small team, so flexibility and a good work ethic is key. Self Motivation: Once you gain confidence, you will take initiative in managing your tasks whilst updating the team using our workflow system. Desirable (but not essential) Skills: Graphic Design or Digital Art Skills—Experience with design software will be beneficial but not necessary. We’ll teach you Experience in Signage Installation—Especially vehicle graphics, which would eventually be a large part of the role. Confidence with Power Tools—We use drills and various other tools daily. What We Offer: Full training and on-the-job learning.
