Job Opportunity: Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineer

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a degree qualified Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineer in a related discipline to join our Engineering team in Grangemouth or Glasgow. Using managerial and technical expertise, you will provide M&E engineering technical support to the Operations and Estates functions, specializing in electrical, controls/PLC’s, mechanical, and hydraulics.

* Salary: £45,621 pa
* Schedule: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week with occasional standby

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide M&E Engineering support to all parts of the organisation, working on time and within budget using appropriate standards, skills, and resources.
2. Comply with safety, environmental, heritage, and customer service standards, and Scottish Canals policies.
3. Carry out engineering inspections, assessments, and reports prioritising and costing serviceability of all assets.
4. Contribute to planning, projects, repair, maintenance, conservation, and protection of M&E aspects of Scottish Canals’ assets.
5. Provide M&E engineering technical support to the wider Engineering and Infrastructure functions.
6. Scope, specify and deliver M&E projects through the Scottish Canals tendering process.
7. Supervise and deliver the agreed M&E work programme, projects, specifications, and minor works.
8. Ensure compliance with statutory inspections and certifications.
9. Manage multiple projects and ensure they are handled according to Scottish Canals procedures.
10. Work with M&E maintenance teams to assess assets and provide improvement recommendations.
11. Maintain and update M&E asset information using the Scottish Canals ‘Asset Management eXpert’ system.
12. Conduct M&E asset inspections providing scoring and recommendations for serviceability.
13. Develop into a technical expert in relevant areas of M&E installations and technology.
14. Participate in stand-by and call-out rota as required.
15. Contribute to recruitment, performance reviews, training, absence management, and communication.
16. Ensure planned works are completed on time and within budget, coordinating resources effectively.
Skills and Experience:
* Degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline.
* Chartered (or working towards) membership of an appropriate professional body, e.g., IEE or IET.
* Relevant Health and Safety Qualification (NEBOSH/SMSTS or similar).
* Proven team leadership/management experience.
* Experience managing multiple projects in the relevant discipline.
* General awareness of heritage and environment regulations.
* Proficient in MS Office and project management software.
* Valid driving license.
