Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team at the Royal Sussex County Hospital working A&E, short stay wards and the Acute Admissions Unit. Our Team comprises of nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, therapy assistants and social care professionals from the acute Trust and Brighton and Hove County Council. This enables close multidisciplinary working to achieve combined goals, effective discharge planning and improved patient flow from the acute floor. Therapists work within an integrated model and are upskilled to carry out comprehensive, generic assessments with the aim to deliver highest standards of patient care, as well as promoting service and professional development to further enhance both clinical and non-clinical skills. The post would include being part of the rostered seven day working and extended hours service covering 8am-8pm to support discharges using various services available. Main duties of the job Assisting in providing Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy interventions for patients assessed by the team. Once deemed competent, the post holder will be able to assess non-complex patients, progress them and plan discharges appropriately, liaising with key personnel and outside agencies accordingly. This would be within clinical areas based on Level 5 of the Thomas Kemp Tower as well as the acute medical beds in the 3T's. The Therapy Assistant Practitioner will work under the direction and guidance of an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist within the team but may work without being directly supervised but with immediate access to a therapist on site or by telephone/bleep. Other members of the team may also request tasks to be undertaken which will support them in managing the workload on a daily basis. The post holder will be expected to use a minimal amount of clinical judgement and freedom to act when undertaking their work whilst remaining within agreed protocols.
