Role Summary
To support significant client demand and strategic partnerships for our AutoCoding System, we require a new member of our project engineering team. The day-to-day duties will be varied in composition including management of customer communications and leadership of project activity, installation of hardware on customer sites, supporting end-users, working with integrators, and conducting site training. The role will also include deployment of software and configuration of systems both remotely via VPN and from clients’ sites throughout the UK and Europe, with the possibility of travel to the USA and the rest of the world.
To support the growth of the business, ACS is seeking to employ a project engineer who will undertake and lead the roll-out of software and hardware systems to the customer base.
As a Project Engineer, your role will include:
* Acting as onsite project lead, for coordination activities and relevant communication of project tasks.
* Utilizing your software, electrical, and mechanical skills to install, troubleshoot, and support the end-to-end solution to a high standard and in an efficient time scale.
* Configuring hardware devices such as HMIs, PCs, PLCs, Barcode scanners, Vision equipment, and industrial coders.
* Fault finding on Ethernet and RS232, using electrical and software skills.
* Undertaking customer training from basic line operation to full system training.
* Being able to communicate and lead discussions with a wide customer audience.
* Configuring the end-to-end solution to enable integration from line side through to ERP/MES type systems.
* Conducting project analysis such as packaging, hardware, and system implementation surveys.
* Liaising with the development and solutions teams within the company to allow thorough testing of new devices before drivers are released to site engineers and integrators.
* Identifying and escalating issues to relevant departments when necessary.
* Being part of the Out of Hours rota and taking calls from customer sites to resolve issues.
Required Skills & Experience
* At least 5 years of experience working in an engineering role, preferably as a project engineer.
* A minimum of NVQ Level 3 in a relevant electrical discipline.
* A minimum of HNC in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Demonstrated mechanical skills.
* Strong appetite to learn and use our own software and 3rd party software systems.
* Innovative approach to problem solving and ability to utilize and share knowledge with others in the team and across the company.
* Basic understanding of TCP/IP networks.
* Ability to prioritize issues and escalate when necessary.
* End user and project team training skills.
* Excellent client-facing skills.
* Flexibility and willingness to undertake support across the UK, Europe, and potentially other areas of the world.
* Full UK passport and UK driving license.
Not required but beneficial...
* Knowledge of other Microsoft SQL tools including SSRS, SSAS, SSIS.
* Experience of industrial devices and communication protocols.
* Experience with project management philosophies such as Prince2, Agile.
* PLC skills, Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens.
* Understanding of Vision devices such as Sick, Cognex, Omron.
* Another language – German, Spanish, French.

Reporting
The role will report directly to the Engineering Manager and will involve daily contact with customers both on-site and via telephone, suppliers, and colleagues with respect to infrastructure and system implementation functions.
The role will be based from home, with main activities conducted on-site.
