Healthcare Assistant – Llwyn Yr Eos Primary School

We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Llwyn Yr Eos Primary School.
The postholder will support the health care of an individual with Nemaline Rod Myopathy, which affects the individual’s health and physical needs. An intensive package of training will be provided, monitored, and competencies reviewed closely by the Children’s Community Nurse Team and other involved healthcare professionals. Upon successful attainment of necessary competencies, the Healthcare Assistant will support the individual’s needs within the educational placement and lead on medical procedures with the assistance of appropriately trained staff within the educational setting. There could be instances where the postholder is requested to undertake their duties within the learner’s home.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
* Report to the Specialist Teacher and be guided by all appropriate agencies in the delivery of care.
* Supervise and provide support for the young person, ensuring their safety and comfort to access learning activities.
* Ensure the young person’s comfort and dignity when dealing with personal care to maintain self-esteem.
* Support the young person to and from their home and educational setting, always ensuring their safety and comfort.
We are looking to recruit an individual:
* With NVQ 3, equivalent qualification, or experience working with children/young people.
* With an interest in working with/caring for young people with complex medical needs.
* Who is willing to undertake extensive training relevant to the individual’s health and physical needs, recognizing that competencies will be reviewed and updated as required.
* Who can work constructively and flexibly as part of a team, understanding roles and responsibilities within the learning environment and their own position within these.
* With the ability to commute to the individual’s home.
In addition to the above, we require an individual with a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. A successful applicant without the required Welsh language skills will be fully supported to reach the desired standard within two years of appointment.
