Job Responsibilities
1. Maintaining a clean, safe, and secure school, which includes the buildings and grounds.
2. Carrying out cleaning, handyperson activities, routine maintenance and refurbishment, porterage, and minor repairs.
3. Promoting health and safety around the school.
4. Supervising external contractors and site use and development planning.
5. Ensuring a clean, safe, secure, and pleasant environment for users of the school buildings and grounds.
6. Responsible for the opening and closing of the building and its grounds.
7. Supporting building projects within agreed tolerances as set by the Trust, including obtaining quotations and determining timing of work and costs.
8. Liaising with users of the building as appropriate to facilitate additional or non-standard usage of the building outside usual educational hours.
9. Locking and unlocking the premises as required, including out-of-school hours when necessary.
10. Checking at the end of the day that all windows, doors, and gates are locked, lights switched off, and gas and electrical appliances are turned off.
11. Carrying out regular checks of CCTV and alarm systems, locks, fire safety appliances, security gates, and perimeter fencing, ensuring necessary repairs are carried out.
12. Advising the Account Manager / FET / Headteacher on all matters relating to school security and safety.
13. Ensuring that all contractors have full access to the site regarding the Statutory Testing of any specialist equipment.
14. Managing the estates fabric and equipment to ensure safe use, including repair where possible.
15. Ensuring that appropriate materials and equipment are available on site and that equipment receives correct repair and maintenance.
16. Ensuring areas requiring repair do not pose a danger to occupants or affect building security while observing Health and Safety at Work requirements.
17. Working with the Facilities Contract Account Manager to identify and schedule repairs/maintenance for specialist works, identifying when external contractors are needed.
18. Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance to the buildings/grounds within the post holder's capability, excluding major building works.
19. Ensuring that all work carried out by themselves or those they supervise is completed with due observance to appropriate Health and Safety at Work requirements.
20. Managing health and safety regarding premises and maintaining a log of safety issues including fire and asbestos logs.
