We have an exciting opportunity for a Tax Manager to join our Tax Management team focusing on tax risk, governance, and controls.
As a Tax Manager in the team, you will be accountable for executing on the team vision, ensuring that our tax governance and controls are always delivered on time, in line with HMRC requirements and free from errors.
For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time based at either our Swindon or London offices.
What you’ll be doing
You will maintain and develop a robust internal tax governance framework to support the tax team in managing tax risk, ensuring compliance with the Code of Practice on Taxation for Banks, the Senior Accounting Officer Regime and supporting HMRC’s Business Risk Review process.
This will include maintenance and development of the external Tax Strategy and internal Tax Policy, as well as being responsible for the operation and development of the Senior Accounting Officer regime process, Tax Judgement Forum, Tax Risk Register and other tax governance processes.
You will be the primary point of contact for colleagues in Internal Audit and Financial Controls Testing for tax-related matters and work closely with Risk Partners.
Additionally, the role will cover ad-hoc projects, coordination and reporting on behalf of the tax team for wider Finance governance, process, data and control activities.
You will be working in an agile environment, expected to make decisions at pace and deliver to a high quality.
You will demonstrate strong leadership skills as you coordinate and lead in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
About you
At a minimum you will be:
* A qualified accountant and/or qualified tax professional with proven tax experience across a range of tax disciplines.
* Experienced in operating and developing tax governance and control frameworks.
* Experienced in the Senior Accounting Officer regime.
* Able to display stakeholder management and relationship building skills, at all levels of the organisation.
* Able to make decisions independently, keeping relevant parties informed.
* Able to manage multiple conflicting priorities and identify the right course of action for the Society.
