The Role & Key Responsibilities
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
In this role you will be reporting to the Network Team Leader, this position provides WAN, LAN, WLAN and includes firewall device support, monitoring, maintenance and documentation for Surrey and Sussex Police network.
The main role is to provide support and be involved actively as part of the network team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintaining WAN, LAN, Wireless LAN connectivity between all locations
2. Deploy and configure Edge router and security firewalls.
3. Participate in, where appropriate in the designs and implementation of various networks engagement.
4. Monitor and maintain the health and general condition of the network’s environment.
5. Deliver fault isolation and troubleshooting on network systems.
6. Assist in network hardware and software configuration standards.
7. Collaborate with the network team to develop recommendations concerning equipment life cycle and replacement.
8. Understand and adhere to company policies and procedures daily.
9. Create and maintain detailed network documentation and procedures.
10. Interface with vendors and staff daily.
11. Provide in person support and installation to customers.
Skills & Experience
It is essential that the post holder has/is:
12. CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or with similar qualifications.
13. Experience in supporting a large/enterprise level network environment including firewalls / VPN architecture, Cisco ASA firewalls and Checkpoint platforms.
14. Strong knowledge of key networking protocols used in design and operation, including routing protocols.
15. Knowledge of WAN implementation and monitoring.
16. Knowledge of campus LAN, Wi-Fi networks.
17. Knowledge of QoS in a WAN/LAN environment.
18. Strong troubleshooting skills.
19. Troubleshooting network performance using multiple diagnostic and monitoring tools to analyse traffic and provide capacity planning and trouble remediation.
20. Ability to learn quickly and apply knowledge to the current environment.
21. Willingness to participate in a dynamic team.
22. Ability to work autonomously and using own initiative.
