About the job. As a Principal Tunnel Technology Specialist, you will use systems engineering principles to set, evolve and communicate the technical and architectural direction, principles, and strategies for National Highway's tunnel estate. You will be a thought leader for the evolution and advancement of our tunnel systems and technology and champion continuous improvement in technology and service delivery. This is an exciting and fast paced role that will allow you to work with fellow specialists to improve the way in which NH utilises technology as well as providing key contributions to the delivery of major national infrastructure. This will encompass both a traditional IT corporate ecosystem alongside the Operational Technology (OT) roadside and control room hardware and software being supplied to National Highways. Please note this role can be based from any of our UK offices, as well as working in a hybrid capacity. We are a national team so there will be a requirement for occasional travel to one of our offices for meetings, most commonly Birmingham. Lead and provide strategic direction at a senior level, ensuring technical requirements and technical architecture for tunnel systems and technology are clearly defined and agreed across the organisation. Own and develop the suite of tunnel systems and technology specifications to ensure they deliver the requirements of the Concept of Operations for National Highways tunnels. Act as a thought leader for the development and advancement of tunnel technology by working with internal and external stakeholders to explore and exploit new technologies to drive innovation within operational technology. Drive proactive stakeholder engagement and relationship building, at senior level, across IT, Operations, Major Projects, SES and Delivery Partners and lead the definition, development and communication of best practice for tunnel system engineering. Ensure the safety of technology systems by understanding, defining and assuring the impact of the system design and technology on the operation and maintenance of the overall design through the tunnels lifecycle. About you. Experience across Operational Technologies such as: SCADA, Stopped Vehicle Detection Radar, Video (CCTV) Systems and Management, Tunnel Control Systems and Traffic Management Systems along with experience of wider Intelligent Transport System technology, interfaces and protocols such as: UTMC, NTCIP, DATEX2, NMCS2. Experience of working with business and technology stakeholders to translate operational requirements into service and technology systems using established system engineering principles. Possess a good understanding of technical governance with the ability to participate in or deliver the assurance of a service. Possess a good understanding of functional safety of control systems with ability to translate technical concepts between Engineering, Delivery Management and Service Management so they are understood by all. Experience of producing strategy for technology that meets business needs with the ability to create, refine and challenge patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements. About us.
