Job Description
Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer – 1) Composites 3D Weaving or 2) Textiles Engineer/Programmer
Working Pattern: Full time
Working Location: Bristol
Rolls-Royce is currently developing manufacturing methods, processes, and materials for their composite fan systems. We are going through an exciting phase of growth as we deliver composite components and manufacturing programmes across a range of products for Civil Aerospace and Defence divisions.
This is an excellent opportunity for two Manufacturing Engineers to work within the Composite Technology Facility (CTF) as part of our Engineering, Technology and Safety business. This work will involve:
The hands-on development of the 3D Weaving manufacturing process for a novel fan system or creation, verification, and optimisation of programmes to develop preform designs for a range of preforming methods, predominantly for 3D Weaving.
The roles will be based in CTF Bristol on the Filton site and involve visits to our offsite facility, working closely with other parts of the business including Rolls-Royce Derby, external suppliers, and the National Composites Centre (NCC).
What We Offer
We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits, including bonuses, employee support assistance, and employee discounts.
What You Will Be Doing
These roles will require individuals who can integrate with a team of highly capable engineers focused on the delivery of 'state of the art' technology. With these opportunities, you will get a chance to:
1. Develop and deliver composite preform processes including 3D Weaving for the latest fan system, providing a capable method to the Operation Team in the facility.
2. Ensure the preforming process techniques meet our customer’s requirements for Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Lead time.
3. Develop the Technical Package (Equipment Specification, TI’s, PFMEAs, Tooling, Equipment, and HSE documentation) to define and control the manufacturing process effectively.
4. Identify opportunities for new or improved processes using statistical process control (Ppk and Cpk) to meet current or future requirements while sharing best practices across the community.
5. Drive the composite process to Zero Defects through cost and quality waterfalls, owning the technology plan and strategy as we head towards industrialising the fan system.
Who We’re Looking For:
To be successful in these roles you will need to:
1. Have an Engineering or relevant discipline degree, HND, or HNC with Manufacturing Engineering experience.
2. Possess knowledge of and previous work experience in 3D weaving and processing of 3D woven preforms or similar textile manufacturing processes.
3. Understand technology readiness levels (TRL) and driving processes to maturity.
4. Be familiar with the manufacturing engineering toolset to improve processes in our route to zero defects.
5. Have experience working to aerospace management systems and following process controls.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business, an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently have this in place. Due to the nature of work and the protection of certain assets, we can only progress applications from individuals who are UK nationals or, in MoD approved cases, dual nationals.
