Teaching Assistant (ALN) Vacancy
We are working with the highly valued purpose-built specialist facility for pupils who have a diagnosis of ASD – Ammanford. The centre is looking for a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team. The centre has a capacity for 35 pupils and provides specialist educational placements for children and young people between 11 and 19 years, all of whom are on the Autistic spectrum; some have severe or profound learning difficulties.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting classroom teachers and helping children achieve their full potential. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are eager to make a positive impact in an Addition Learning Needs centre.
Position – Teaching Assistant (ALN)
Location – Ammanford, SA19.
Hours – Full time, Monday – Friday
Salary - £83.85 daily rate
What We’re Looking For:
* SEN Childcare Experience (Preferred): Previous experience working with children with additional learning needs or vulnerable adults, including manual handling and challenging behaviour is highly desirable, but not essential. What matters most is your understanding and commitment to supporting children with low functioning ASD.
* A Valid Driver’s Licence: The ability to drive is a must, as you may be required to assist with school trips or travel to other locations for school activities.
* Patience and Resilience: Working with students with special needs can be challenging and requires patience and resilience.
* Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with teachers, parents, and other professionals. Also need these skills to adapt your communication style to suit the needs of the children you’re working with.
* Creativity: Finding new ways to engage students and adapt learning materials requires creativity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supporting Learning: work closely with the classroom teacher to adapt learning materials to the student’s needs. You may provide additional explanations, simplify tasks, or use alternative teaching methods.
* Behaviour Management: Some students may have behavioural difficulties related to their special educational needs. You will be expected to manage this behaviour, implementing strategies to promote positive behaviour and reduce disruptions.
* Physical and Medical Assistance: For students with physical disabilities, you may provide help with mobility, feeding, personal hygiene, and other daily tasks including medication.
* Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
* Emotional Support: Provide emotional support to students. Help the students build confidence, develop social skills, manage stress, and cope with any challenges related to their special educational needs.
* Liaison with Other Professionals: May often work as part of a larger team, which might include speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and social workers, acting as a liaison between these professionals, the school, and the student’s family to ensure the child’s needs are met.
