Transport Planner Job Description
Contributing to the success of the transport team, you will be responsible for completing and overseeing the day-to-day planning function of the transport operation. A highly motivated and driven individual, you will be experienced at working in a quick and fast-paced environment and be able to deal with day-to-day challenges in providing an effective transport plan.
As a Transport Planner, you will play a central role in creating effective transport plans for our customers within the wider Stobart network, whilst complying with legal responsibilities.
Working hours: Monday - Friday
Salary: £31,720 per annum
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and plan drivers effectively through ongoing communication and using our state-of-the-art transport software.
2. Control and plan resources (vehicles, drivers, trailers), ensuring all legal requirements are adhered to (Working Time Directive and EU drivers’ hours regulations).
3. Ensure the daily plan is completed in real-time, managing resources effectively to maximize utilization and minimize costs.
4. Keep internal tracking systems organized and updated to a high standard.
5. Utilize in-house planning tools to manage workload and monitor efficiency.
6. Achieve key performance targets related to fleet safety and efficiency, including utilization and costing.
7. Maintain constant communication with customer service teams and drivers to meet customer KPIs and targets.
Qualifications
* Good geographical knowledge of the UK.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
* CPC qualification is desirable but not required.
* Experience planning 100+ tractor units across multiple depots.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to succeed under pressure.
* Customer-focused with a focus on delivery performance.
* Commercially and financially astute, driven to deliver results.
* Experience using a TMS system.
* Experience in an FMCG environment.
* Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel formulas.
