Job Overview
The Bar Manager/Steward plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our establishment during their shift. This position involves overseeing daily activities, managing staff, and ensuring that customers receive exceptional service. The ideal candidate is required to hold or be working towards holding a personal licence to sell alcohol and a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification and will possess strong leadership skills with a background in hospitality, particularly within Club or Public House environments.
The required standard working hours are 37 hours per week worked flexibly in context of the demands of the job that include a varied workload based on match-days, functions, nature of demand and time of year. This will include the requirement of bar/staff administration, bar maintenance (eg line cleaning), and meeting with Sports Club Management.
The Bar Manager/Steward is entitled to 28 days including Bank Holidays. These can be taken flexibly according to the demands of the job and will be engaged in the Newton Aycliffe Sports Club pension scheme.
Responsibilities
1. Supervise and coordinate the activities of staff to ensure high standards of service and efficiency.
2. Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback promptly and professionally to enhance customer satisfaction.
3. Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as necessary.
4. Train, mentor, and support team members to foster a positive work environment.
5. Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations across the establishment.
6. Manage all aspects of bar and function room operation. Demonstrate high personal levels of reliability, organisation, effective use of time, and communication.
7. Recruit cleaning and bar staff sufficient for serving the requirements of running the Club bar and function room effectively.
8. Ensure there is sufficient staff cover at all times including cover requirements for a ‘senior’ bar staff member in the absence of the Bar Manager/Steward.
9. Liaise with Sporting Sections so that any planning on their part can be taken into account when making arrangements for bar/function room operation.
10. Ensure high practice standards and procedures are in place regarding Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) issues.
11. Ensure effective systems are in place to reconcile day to day bar income against till roll totals. Bank cash each week after weekend receipts.
12. Ensure high standards of hygiene are maintained throughout the Club’s premises. Clean draft beer/lager lines weekly.
Skills
1. Proven experience in a managerial role within the Club, Public House or other comparable industries.
2. Strong team management abilities with a focus on leadership and motivation.
3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
4. Ability to supervise effectively while maintaining a positive atmosphere for both staff and guests.
5. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think on your feet in a fast-paced environment.
6. A passion for hospitality and providing outstanding guest experiences.
