Position: Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Manchester (M44) - Hybrid - 4 days in office & 1 day from home
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum
Overview:
Our client, a well-established organisation based in Manchester, is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join their team. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong technical skills across on-premise and cloud infrastructure, particularly Microsoft technologies, to play a key role in maintaining and developing internal IT systems.
You’ll act as a 3rd Line escalation point, contribute to process improvement, and manage infrastructure both locally and in the cloud. The role requires a hands-on engineer with a problem-solving mindset and a collaborative approach.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as final point of escalation for Service Desk tickets
2. Provide guidance and support to 1st/2nd Line Engineers
3. Implement and maintain infrastructure systems across cloud and on-prem environments
4. Manage and deploy Azure services and security protocols (Entra, O365)
5. Maintain backups, system documentation, and technical processes
6. Oversee version control and endpoint protection via InTune, Defender, and ManageEngine
7. Contribute to BAU service desk tasks as required
Technical Skills:
1. Windows Server (AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, etc.)
2. Azure, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 suite
3. VMware (ESX 8.0+), iSCSI, Veeam
4. Linux (SUSE, Ubuntu, Rocky, CentOS)
5. Network hardware: Cisco Nexus/Catalyst, Allied Telesis, Ubiquiti
6. Firewalls: Fortinet
7. MDM and endpoint security tools
8. Solid understanding of backups, storage, and cabling (Cat5e/6, fibre)
