The Role
Smartcomms is seeking a full-time Finance Assistant who will be based in Southampton to support the Finance department in payables, receivables, payroll, monthly reporting and ad hoc requests. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, a talent for analysing financial data, an ability to learn and work with financial systems, have an eye for detail and work efficiently under tight timelines.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist finance team with the month-end close process including posting payroll journals, accruals and prepayments, calculating and posting depreciation journals, balance sheet reconciliations and inputting supplier invoices.
* Support Financial Controller with monthly payroll process, reconciliation and reporting.
* Reconciliation of Sage Intacct to Billing software throughout the month.
* Chasing outstanding debtors and following the internal credit control process to mitigate instances of bad debt.
* Preparing and raising fortnightly supplier pay runs on the bank for approval by the Finance Director.
* Daily bank reconciliations – allocating customer and supplier payments, as well as reconciling Direct Debit and card payments.
* Support the finance team during audits and ensure all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
* Perform general administrative tasks to support the finance department.
Essential experience, skills and knowledge:
* AAT Level 4 qualified or training for ACCA or CIMA.
* Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
* A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel.
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Willingness to learn and grow within the finance department.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

* Competitive salary: £31,000 - £33,000 per annum
