Job Introduction
From the World Cup to the Summer and Winter Olympics, The FA Cup, 6 Nations and Wimbledon - BBC Sport is at the heart of the world’s major sporting events. We are looking for a Production Manager to join our team, working across our Premier League football programmes initially.
We want BBC Sport’s output to reflect and understand the audiences we serve - for example, the different geographical regions of the UK and the experience of people from underrepresented groups. We would therefore encourage applications from individuals with skills or experience that can help contribute towards ensuring we maximise the diversity of our coverage and content.
Main Responsibilities
Working in partnership with other teams within Sport and the wider BBC, you will manage the production of our coverage and play a crucial role in delivering the best content to our audiences. In this role you will:
* Contribute to setting up our productions, ensuring resources and editorial aspirations are aligned.
* Comply with BBC policies, guidelines, legislative and regulatory requirements and minimise the BBC’s exposure to risk, delivering value for money through effective and efficient management of people and resources.
* Be responsible for ensuring all necessary rights are acquired for the complete delivery of our programmes, escalating any issues at the earliest stage.
* Manage the financial and operational performance of the productions.
* Be responsible for preparing, managing and monitoring production (and IT) budgets, and for forecasting and reporting progress in line with best practice.
* Ensure production teams are aware of, and adhere to, the processes for fully and accurately capturing and managing metadata in line with BBC guidelines and policies.
* Be responsible for efficiently and effectively deploying approved technologies on the production(s).
* Work with editorial and production colleagues to devise and implement plans to reduce environmental impact across our coverage.
Are you the right candidate?
You Will Have:
* A demonstrable passion for and knowledge of sport and the wider sport industry.
* Considerable experience of delivering a range of productions on time and on budget.
* Experience of monitoring and managing health and safety on a production.
* Demonstrable working knowledge of end-to-end multi-platform production with a level of technical understanding to enable the most efficient production of content.
* Detailed knowledge of commissioning and green light procedures in order to guide the processes, ensuring resources and editorial aspirations are aligned.
* The ability to advise on production systems and support the implementation of new technologies on productions.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining effective relations with a wide range of contacts.
* Record of being organised and responsive in fast paced environments.
* Ability to interpret an editorial brief, explain commissioning requirements and suggest ideas for maximising the value from productions.
* Strong negotiating skills, able to influence, manage and negotiate deals and contracts in line with BBC policies and guidelines.
* Demonstrable team leadership skills - able to lead, develop and motivate teams across a range of output.
* Demonstrable business and finance skills, able to create, forecast and manage significant production resources and budgets.
* Experience of supervising or line managing Production Staff.
