Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) is seeking to recruit two full-time Senior Peer Supporters to join the Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Service. This service provides an assessment and treatment service for adults who are experiencing difficulty with symptoms of ADHD. The Team is located at Keegan Court, Gateshead but appointments are offered in various outpatient settings throughout Northumberland, Newcastle, Gateshead, and South of Tyne.
The Peer Supporter role is a vital part of our plan to continually improve the service that we provide. This position is newly established within the ADHD service, and individuals in this role will collaborate closely with the team and the Peer Support Supervisor to fully develop its functions within the service.
The roles are aimed at people with personal lived experience of ADHD who have a deep understanding of the challenges and impacts this condition can have on daily life. Post holders will have previous experience of working in a Peer Supporter Role and will be confident in taking on mentoring responsibilities within the Peer Supporter Network in CNTW.
Support may be provided at any stage, from referral to discharge, but post holders will particularly focus on facilitating the delivery of psycho-education. This includes offering information on ADHD and its management, empowering our Service Users with the essential skills needed to manage their symptoms effectively.
This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a Clinical Team, utilising your personal experience to:
1. Share your own experiences of ADHD to find a mutual connection with service users and their families.
2. Share ideas to promote wellbeing whilst empowering service users to develop their own coping strategies.
3. Provide pre and post-diagnostic support.
4. Facilitate group work and some 1:1 work, supporting service users throughout their journey whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
5. Empower service users to gain a better understanding of ADHD.
6. Empower Service Users to access external resources.
7. Record progress and concerns, working in a manner which ensures confidentiality and security.

Through this experience, you develop an understanding of what it's like to live through unique experiences and develop resilience that supports your wellbeing. As a Peer Supporter, you will use these first-hand experiences of living through personal challenges to offer insight, relate to, and offer support to other people who are now facing similar challenges to the ones you have faced.
We recognise that using your lived experience can be challenging and you will be supported to develop and maintain your wellbeing within your role by both your team and the Lived Experience Support Team.
