We are looking for a team player with drive, ambition and commitment to producing quality work. The right candidate will be self-motivated and eager to develop their skills and knowledge. You will join and be supported by an expert team of engineers, directors, operations staff and technicians.
You will be working as part of an experienced team to design and deliver geo-environmental and geotechnical consultancy services to a range of clients including residential and commercial property developers, agents, planners, engineers, public bodies and private companies.
The workload BSL have is varied and engaging, with a good balance of site and office working, you would be managing and gaining experience on a diverse range of projects including ground investigations to satisfy planning conditions, contaminated land assessments, geotechnical design, remediation design, verification, Part 2A investigations, due diligence surveys and more.
Training on health and safety aspects alongside technical aspects will be provided where required, and BSL support opportunities for continued professional development (CPD).
Your Responsibilities
Be familiar with relevant standards, guidance and legislative background to the geo-environmental and geotechnical industry.
Supervise ground investigations involving various techniques, manage subcontractors, log and sample soil and rock to BS5930, monitor gas and groundwater, undertake in-situ tests, validation works etc.
Schedule chemical and geotechnical laboratory testing.
Produce exploratory hole logs to relevant standards (using Holebase or similar) and keep clear site records.
Produce drawings (including in CAD).
Write desk-based Phase I geo environmental assessment reports and Coal Mining Risk Assessments (CMRAs).
Write Interpretive reports (Phase II geo-environmental assessment, qualitative and generic quantitative risk assessment, ground gas assessment, geotechnical assessment).
Communicate with project managers over requirements, including preparing invoice breakdowns on completion of works.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and suppliers.
Liaison with sub-contractors and clients to assist in the delivery of projects.
Prepare proposals for new work.
Comply with internal policies, procedures and ISO standards.
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience in the following areas: Preparation of outline and detailed remediation strategies.
Familiarity with a range of remediation techniques.
Verification of remediation works on site and preparation of verification reports.
Earthworks and materials/waste management including knowledge of MMPs under the CL:AIRE DoWCoP.
Soil mechanics, determining characteristic values and calculation of foundation bearing capacities and settlements.
Liaison and negotiation with regulators.
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes Approximately 2-3+ years relevant experience.
Undergraduate Degree (2:1 or above) in relevant subject (geology, environmental science, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, physical geography etc).
Postgraduate Degree or Masters in relevant subject (desirable, not essential).
Good IT skills and competent with MS Office.
Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Holebase desirable.
Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to adapt, finding quick, innovative and practical solutions.
A strong work ethic, able to work effectively either alone or as part of a small team.
Full UK driving license (manual transmission).
