LANXESS UK is now recruiting an Environmental Specialist to join us at our Widnes site About the role As the Environmental specialist here at Lanxess you will be responsible for the key environmental aspects and impacts on an Upper tier COMAH establishment, integrating into the sustainability goals of Lanxess Chemical Ltd. Reporting into the QHSE Manager you will develop site-specific health and safety protocols such as spill contingency plans or methods for loading and transporting of raw materials, intermediates, wastes and final products. Your responsibility includes conducting site inspections and surveys to assess environmental conditions and controls with a view to identifying potential risks or hazards. You will strive for continual improvements via sustainability projects and initiatives to reduce environmental impact. Main Responsibilities: Establish KPIs in environmental performance and sustainability and assist with identifying annual environmental objectives and targets. Support regulatory returns for UKETS, Climate Change Levy and ESOS from a range of sources through data collection, site assessments, environmental monitoring and third-party reports. Develop, maintain and implement the 14001 Management System and ensure all policies and procedures are up to date, compliant with all applicable laws and regulations and in line with corporate requirements and guidelines. Complete internal auditing of environmental management systems and improve. Support and continually improve the site loss of containment programme. Ensure environmental incidents are investigated and documented thoroughly. Ensure root causes are identified for all incidents and that appropriate actions are implemented to prevent recurrence. Gain an understanding of the site secondary and tertiary containment systems with a view to evaluating compliance and identifying any improvements. Testing and monitoring is specific to the boiler emission permit with annual testing & Qual2 verification, site water abstraction borehole, boreholes in place for the site protection monitoring programme. Assist in the implementation of ISO50001 Energy Sound knowledge of energy modelling and life cycle assessment tools. Assist in projects and initiatives to reduce the company scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in line with corporate goals. Understand current environmental regulations and best practices to ensure compliance in the role and advise applicable environmental procedural controls. About You We are looking for someone who has an environmental engineering, environmental science, or a field related environmental degree or HND. You will ideally have previous work experience in a similar field and be familiar with environmental management and environmental permit requirements along with CDOIF environmental risk assessment and the potential control measures that can be employed to reduce environmental impact. Key Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Pro-active and drives through change. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
