Have you left school or are you at college and you are not happy with the direction you have taken? Would you like to know about careers in pharmacy? You will be put on a course that meets the legal requirement to qualify to work in a pharmacy dispensary.
Our Pharmacy Assistants/Dispensers work as part of a pharmacy team under the direction of a registered pharmacist. The work includes:
1. Taking in and handing out prescriptions
2. Dispensing prescriptions
3. Using computer systems to generate stock lists and labels
4. Ordering items
5. Receiving, loading, unloading deliveries
6. Delivering medicines to nearby surgeries or patients
7. Selling over-the-counter medicines
8. Answering customers' questions face to face or by phone
9. Pre-packing, assembling, and labeling medicines
10. Preparing medicines
11. Referring problems or queries to the pharmacist
It would be an advantage if you are a bubbly, cheerful character willing to learn to provide a fast and friendly service. Pharmacy assistants work as part of healthcare teams liaising with hospital colleagues when patients are admitted or discharged from hospital or routinely with GPs and GP teams, Community Nursing teams, and Social care plus other community pharmacies.
Entry Requirements:
GCSE or equivalent qualifications.
Skills and Personal Characteristics:
Pharmacy assistants need to be accurate and methodical, responsible, pay attention to detail, able to understand law and guidelines on medicines, able to read and carry out instructions, be interested in people's health, and able to explain clearly to members of the public. They will also need excellent communication, customer service, IT, and manual skills.
Training and Development:
You will be given the training you need to be a member of the pharmacy team and to be aware of data protection and confidentiality. This includes health and safety, use of IT, over-the-counter medicines training, and dispensing prescriptions. You will be offered the chance to study for qualifications such as NVQ level 2 in pharmacy service skills and BTECH level 2 in pharmaceutical services. Career progression in this profession will include a chance to study to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician which paves the way for becoming an Accredited Checking Technician.
The employment will be for a fixed duration to achieve the minimum qualification to work in a pharmacy (12 to 16 months) with a prospect of consideration for full-time thereafter. All applications with detailed CVs and a covering letter should be forwarded to our company email.
