CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES To assist qualified staff to set up operating theatre and help during the procedureand responsible to work in a circulating capacity under the supervision ofregistered practitioner/nurse. To ensure all specimens are correctly prepared for analysis and transportcomplying with the Trust specimen policy including limbs and foetal remains. To record specimen fridge temperatures. To check stock of theatre consumables, rotates stock and checks expiry dates. To participate in the perioperative count of needles, swabs and surgicalinstruments used during surgery and to complete record as per the policy. To be responsible for operating table attachments, accessories, patient trolleysand any other theatre equipment are cleaned and kept in a good working order. To safely transport patients to and from the Operating Department ensuringpatient safety To operate lifts as required and respond to requests for lift transportation. To respond promptly to the department for major haemorrhage calls if carryingthe bleep. To transport medical, industrial, special gasses and to maintain correct level ofsupply of gases. To ensure the safe positioning of patients for anaesthetic and operativeprocedures, under the guidance of qualified Operating Department staff, iscarried out in a professional manner. To collect or return any equipment used within the Operating Department orequipment attached to patients no longer required. To maintain a clean environment by ensuring all clinical waste is disposed of asappropriate, in accordance with departmental and Trust policies and ensuringall dirty hatches are emptied as required. Report any equipment fault to the band 7 team leader or theatre co-ordinator To ensure the safe management and disposal of nuclear waste bags, undersupervision of RPS. Collection and safe delivery of formalin containing pots to the OperatingDepartment. To be responsible for ensuring the regular clearing of the theatre hatches andtransporting the dirty trays/sets appropriately to the SSD collection area andrestoking of sterile sets using electronic scanning system. To establish effective working relationships with all members of themultidisciplinary team to promote good communication and a multidisciplinaryapproach to patient care in the peri-operative period. To actively participate in a rotational duty roster enduring a 24hr service is maintained. To be responsible for reporting incidents using datix system and potential risks to the band 7 team leader or theatre co-ordinator. To undertake the role of fire warden (after training) supported by senior staff to include undertaking a weekly fire department check. To carry out any other duties as requested by the supervisor, team leaders or theatre co-ordinator which are deemed to be relevant and within the remit of the role. To assist with the personal care and comfort of the patients and to maintain the patients safety, dignity, and privacy at all times To ensure that all documentation is completed relevant to your role (e.g.: theatre records, audits, specimen records, cleaning logs, etc.) using Electronic Patient record system.
