As a key member of our established team, the Senior Flood Risk Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the Flood Risk Manager to implement and communicate the duties under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. In this role, you will lead the design and development of innovative flood risk management projects while providing expert engineering advice on a wide range of regulatory flood risk and drainage issues. Your responsibilities will span multiple service areas, including highways infrastructure, statutory planning and development control, and the coordination of flood risk management across Cheshire East.
The Role
1. To assist the Flood Risk Manager in the delivery of the flood risk functions, duties and responsibilities to enable delivery of the Cheshire East Flood Risk Management Strategy.
2. Provide technical advice on the implementation of the Surface Water Management Plan and Local Flood Risk Strategy, including advising on the requirements for flood risk management, revenue and capital improvements and mitigation that can be implemented through the statutory planning process.
3. Collaboration with strategic partners such as Environment Agency and United Utilities as required.
4. Assist with regulation and technical adequacy of new development and drainage works activity.
5. To assist in the investigation of flood events and to report and publish details of relevant flooding risk.
Minimum Requirements
1. Experience of delivering surface water, groundwater and fluvial related improvements and projects.
2. Experience of working with computerised systems associated with management of technical data and information; use of GIS and/or AutoCad.
3. Knowledge of hydrological design drainage design software such as Microdrainage and FEH / FSR.
4. Understanding of legislation and procedures / guidance relevant to Flood Risk Management.
5. Experience of working in a technical flood risk function associated with the delivery and design of flood risk and drainage improvements, planning & development building control, highway or transportation disciplines in a technical support role.
