You will work as an autonomous specialist Dietitian and provide a comprehensive and effective dietetic service to the Critical Care Units at Basildon Hospital, with support form the Band 7 Critical Care dietitian.

· To be responsible for planning, prioritising and managing own caseload on allocated wards and being accountable for all aspects of the professional clinical work.
· To ensure that patients are getting appropriate and up to date care with the agreement and consultation of the Head of the Nutrition and Dietetic Service.
· To assess and provide dietary advice to inpatients, relatives and carers based on the nutritional assessment including evaluation of nutritional status and the prescription of dietary intervention.
· To have the ability to utilise developed communication and teaching skills to communicate complex information in an understandable form to the diverse population in the hospital where there may be significant understanding barriers e.g. impaired cognition and difficulties in speaking.
· To ensure that the inpatients on therapeutic diets and feeding difficulties receive correct nutrients by working closely with medical, nursing and catering staff, Speech and Language Therapists and dietetic assistants.
· To prescribe nutritional supplements and enteral feeds for patients based on the interpretation of the nutritional assessment.
· To provide clinical dietetic input for patients requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition within the cardiothoracic critical care unit and cardiothoracic and cardiology wards.
· To encourage staff and carers to assess and monitor the nutritional intake.
· To provide appropriate nutrition and therapeutic diet information in a relevant way for each client or carer.
· To educate and advise patients or carers on the dietary management of their condition.
