You will be primarily based in our modern kennels and cat ward, providing care to orthopaedic, neurological, soft tissue, oncology, and internal medicine patients.
The Senior Wards Nurse plays a key role in ensuring, combined with the team, excellent care is provided to inpatients, pre and post-surgery as well as for non-surgical/medical cases. As a Senior Nurse you will support the Wards Clinical Team Leader implementing improvements within the ward department along with supporting the Ward team with the daily patient care, including our RVNs and VCAs.
Clinically, your role will focus on the recovery and ongoing care of hospitalised patients. You’ll collaborate closely with the veterinary team to maintain the highest standards of nursing care. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and takes pride in positively impacting patients' lives.
Responsibilities include:
1. Daily patient care of a range of orthopaedic, neurological, soft tissue, medical and oncology patients.
2. Patient recovery.
3. Pricing and paperwork.
4. Discharges & communication with clients.
5. Ensuring all patients receive gold standard care.
6. Supporting the Nurse Clinical Team Leaders and Ward teams in the smooth and effective running of wards.
7. Covering for Wards Clinical Team Leader as required for management of ward team personnel needs, including ensuring all training and paperwork is up to date for the ward team members, and communicating with floor co-ordinators regarding any support required.
8. Proactively encouraging the ward team to work collaboratively and effectively.
9. Regularly re-evaluating the priorities as the caseload varies, alongside the wider team.

We’re seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, and approachable RVN who excels in teamwork but can also take initiative and work independently. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to multi-task with a flexible approach are essential for this role.
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in referral nursing or over 2 years in a busy primary care setting. Previous senior or supervisory experience is beneficial but not essential.

Working Pattern
This is a full-time position across a 4-day working week; however, we can consider a 5-day week if this is preferred. Our team works varied shifts on a rotational basis, the earliest start being 07:00 and the latest finish is 20:30. There is a 1 in 6 weekend rota (Saturday and Sunday), and you would ordinarily work 2 bank holidays per year.
