An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a restructured Maintenance Services team at the University of Surrey in Guildford. Working as part of an in-house services team of 40+, you will be assisting the Stores Manager in the day-to-day running and facilitating the seamless continuation of service. The post will be required to support our current day pattern of 08.00 – 16.12 Monday to Friday, and may be required to support out of hours rotas as required by the Stores Manager to ensure operational effectiveness and business continuity.
Reporting to the Stores Manager, the post will be responsible for services that will include:
1. Delivering an effective operational stores function and support of the Stores Manager.
2. Ensuring sufficient stocks are available in order that maintenance works can be undertaken in an efficient and cost-effective manner in both the main and off-site satellite stores that come under the control of the E&FM department. This includes maintenance stock, large/small white goods, cleaning consumables, chemicals and janitorial equipment, tools, safety equipment, PPE, uniform, radiators, and ladders.
3. A good knowledge of maintenance.
4. A good level of customer service and the ability to switch tasks seamlessly, prioritize tasks, and manage lead times.
5. Product knowledge to provide solutions to the operational staff and other customers.
6. Ensuring that vital products are received to ensure that operational deadlines are met.
7. Ensuring that all tools and vital equipment used by the operational staff, including ladders, radiators, and other expensive equipment, are fully maintained/calibrated, safely stored, and meet all health and safety protocols.
8. Raising requisition orders for both stock and non-stock items.
9. Processing sales transactions (invoice payments).
10. Receiving and verifying the quality and quantity of deliveries.
11. Receipting goods via Finance system.
12. Monthly and Annual Stocktakes to meet the University’s Finance Regulations.
13. Supporting multi-trade disciplines and finding alternative products when needed.
14. Opening and closing the stores in periods of leave/absence of the Stores Manager.
15. Good communication and people skills both verbally and electronically with both internal staff and external suppliers.
16. COSHH/Risk Assessments/Health and Safety.
17. Value for money, obtaining/negotiating the best possible prices for non-stock and stock products via the university preferred suppliers or other suitable sources (cheaper alternatives).
Willingness to undertake training in other trade disciplines (where appropriate/required).
