We are currently looking for a Manager - Medium and Large Corporate Financial Reporting to join our thriving Accounts team within Outsourced Business Services. This is a key position and is based at our Leatherhead office.
This outsourced business services role relates specifically to accounting and corporate reporting related services, bringing with it the opportunity to grow a portfolio of clients who have large and complex financial reporting requirements. You will work in collaboration with our local audit team, reporting into Partners and Directors and developing a financial reporting centre of excellence within the Outsourced Business Services business unit. This role would suit someone who has either moved out of or is looking to move out of audit.
The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of both UK GAAP and IFRS as it will be essential for this role. In addition to overseeing the preparation of high-quality financial statements to the standard required for audit, both by Menzies and external auditors, the role will provide advisory opportunities and incorporate responding to client technical queries and the preparation of advisory reports to support our clients with their accounting and corporate reporting needs.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Management of a portfolio of medium and large corporate clients, including consolidated groups.
* Overseeing the preparation of financial statements under FRS 102 and IFRS.
* Work in conjunction with audit teams both internally for Menzies audit clients and externally with other audit firms.
* Review of financial statements for compliance with relevant accounting standards and UK company law.
* In collaboration with the team, designing, implementing and overseeing the office’s process for transitioning FRS 102 clients to the amended FRED 82 framework, with a focus on revenue recognition and lease accounting.
* Involvement in scoping, budgeting and tendering for large corporate financial reporting work.
* Preparation of technical memorandums and reports to clients in connection with complex accounting policies, adjustments and disclosures.
* Management and development of upcoming talent within the accounts team, including delivery of technical training on topical issues.
* Financial management of portfolio, taking control of WIP, billing and debt management.
* Involvement in business development, including maintaining own key contacts and fostering new relationships.
* Maintaining a good level of technical knowledge and being able to independently research issues forming your own solutions.
The Person:
The successful candidate will take ownership of their own and junior team members’ development in areas of technical accounting and corporate reporting, and will have the opportunity to shape the firm’s strategy for delivering high quality and timely financial statements in compliance with the upcoming changes to FRS 102.
Required skills & Experience:
* ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent.
* Minimum of five years’ experience in an accountancy practice or in-house financial reporting team within a large corporate group.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to build long standing client and team relationships.
* Organised and responsive to internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to deliver results to a deadline and manage stakeholder expectations accordingly.
* Ability to manage technically complex projects and multiple stakeholders.
* Strong technical understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS.
* Experience in the preparation of consolidation working papers and consolidated financial statements, including international groups, mergers & acquisitions.
* A working understanding of Private Equity funding structures and related accounting and disclosure implications.
* Experience dealing with Big 4 audit firms is desirable (although not essential).
* Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
* Previous use of Caseware is desirable (although not essential).
* Can build trusted relationships to clients and colleagues.
* Produces high quality work to a good technical standard.
* Strong organisational skills to effectively prioritise high volumes of work.
* Anticipates and resolves problems at an early stage to keep assignments on budget.
* Can identify opportunities for growth within existing client base and when to involve other service lines.
* Takes an active role in developing the team providing day to day support on technical and other matters.
* Travel Requirements: Role will be based in Leatherhead office and at client premises predominantly in Leatherhead and surrounding areas.
