The postholder will work strategically and closely with colleagues across the system, as part of the ICB Medicines Optimisation team, developing and implementing the medicines safety element of the Medicines Strategy, to meet the ICB needs for a transformational change.
They will engage with all stakeholders from multiple organisations across the Lancashire and South Cumbria healthcare system and wider Northwest region, including NHSE, NHS providers including primary and secondary care, LPC, LPN, and Community Pharmacy.
Main duties of the job
* Lead action to improve compliance with controlled drug and medicines storage standards in line with legislation, in liaison with the Medicines Safety and Governance Pharmacist.
* Pro-active identification, resolution and escalation of clinical governance/risk management issues relating to medicines management within GP/other healthcare services/care homes.
* Deputise for the Medicines Safety and Governance Pharmacist to ensure the medicines safety agenda is delivered in line with priorities and timelines.
* Sharing/raising awareness of the ICB Non-Medical Prescribing Policy and Governance Framework, acting as a champion to support dissemination of key messages to GP practices across the ICB.
* Design, undertake and support delivery of required outcomes from audit, improvement and research projects.
* Develop standardised medicines incident reporting, including analysis and co-coordinating appropriate narrative for reports.
* Support with medicine safety areas including Antimicrobial Stewardship and Opioids.
* Guidelines, toolkits, campaigns and policy development.
* Through education and training and communication raise awareness and upskill staff to ensure best practice in all aspects of medicines management and safe use and storage of medicines.
Person specification
Qualification
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services sufficient for registration with the GPhC.
* Academic qualifications to a good standard.
* Post qualification experience in hospital and/or community.
* Evidence of CPD.
Experience
* Experience working as a qualified Pharmacy Technician.
* Experience in developing well-presented reports appropriate for the audience.
* Experience of working with GP prescribing systems, other clinical systems.
* Experience in reviewing incidents.
* Experience in responding to patient safety alerts.
Skills
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Good analytical skills.
* Skilled at producing auditing/searches.
* Teaching skills.
