The Role:
BAE Systems Digital Intelligence is seeking to recruit a lead technologist to join our rapidly expanding Data and Decision Support Capability. We are looking for a candidate who is adaptable, enthusiastic and highly motivated.
You should have existing skills in the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. You are also likely to have a strong background in the mathematics, statistics and computational techniques which underpin AI/ML.
The Data and Decision Support Capability has teams working in: reinforcement learning; NLP/LLMs; knowledge graphs and graph-based neural networks; AI for RF and EW, radar, sonar, acoustics; AI for image and video recognition tasks, including computer vision and remote sensing.
What We Are Looking For
As a lead technologist, you will demonstrate deep expertise in at least one area of interest within the capability, while maintaining a good knowledge of all areas to mentor colleagues. Excellent communication skills are essential, along with experience in technical review activities.
You will have opportunities to work on technical challenges, engage with customers, and maintain academic links. You should be capable of leading multidisciplinary teams across various departments.
Typical Responsibilities:
* Lead technical delivery of large AI projects, including reports and proposals.
* Identify novel research areas and foster partnerships with universities and BAE Systems.
* Present research to technical and non-technical audiences.
* Mentor junior staff.
* Ensure quality and engineering assurance for bids, publications, and project outputs.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant field and have over ten years of AI/ML experience, preferably in defense. Specific expertise in areas such as imagery AI, reinforcement learning, NLP, LLMs, knowledge graphs, RF/EW AI, or autonomy is highly desirable.
Additional requirements include the right to work in the UK, ability to work securely, publication record, leadership of R&D teams, experience in engineering assurance, and proposal writing experience.
