Drumduan School is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (TA) to support teachers and assist students in creating a positive and effective learning environment. The TA will provide classroom support, assist with lesson delivery, and offer guidance to students to ensure academic success and emotional well-being. There is also an opportunity for further development to support the school in leading Pastoral Care.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Support:
* Assist the teacher in delivering lessons by providing individual or group support to students.
* Help students with their learning, ensuring they understand the material and stay on task.
* Supervise students during activities and ensure that they are engaged and participating fully in class.
Supporting Student Needs:
* Offer additional support to students with learning difficulties or special educational needs (SEN).
* Assist students in developing their skills, fostering confidence, and promoting independence.
* Encourage a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected.
Classroom Organisation & Management:
* Help maintain a well-organized and tidy classroom, ensuring that resources and materials are readily available for students.
* Set up classroom displays and learning materials as directed by the teacher.
* Support the teacher in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive, structured atmosphere.
Administrative Assistance:
* Assist with the marking of students' work, tracking progress, and providing feedback as directed.
* Help with recording attendance, monitoring students’ behaviour, and assisting with other administrative tasks as required.
* Prepare teaching materials and resources to support lesson plans.
Pastoral Care:
* Provide emotional and pastoral support to students, helping to resolve conflicts and promote well-being.
* Build strong, positive relationships with students, offering encouragement and support where needed.
* Assist students in social development and encourage respectful behaviour toward peers.
Communication:
* Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and parents to support student development and share relevant information.
* Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as needed.
Supervision of Class Activities:
* Supervise students when the teacher is absent, ensuring they complete tasks or assignments that have been pre-assigned.
* Provide support to students, offering guidance and assistance as needed, while maintaining classroom discipline and a focused learning environment.
* Monitor student progress on tasks and report any concerns or difficulties to the classroom teacher.
Supporting Cleaning and Room Maintenance:
* Supervise and assist students in keeping the classroom tidy, including organizing materials, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring the space remains conducive to learning.
* Encourage students to take responsibility for their environment and promote the importance of cleanliness and order.
* Ensure that the classroom is ready for use at the start and end of each day.
Supervising Break and Lunchtimes:
* Supervise students during break and lunchtimes, ensuring their safety and well-being.
* Monitor student behaviour and promote positive social interactions among peers.
* Address any conflicts or concerns that may arise during break/lunchtime and report any significant issues to the appropriate staff.
* Encourage active and inclusive play and assist students in following playground rules.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Previous experience working with children or in a school setting is preferred but not required.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students and staff effectively.
* Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude in assisting students with their learning.
* Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Ability to work as part of a team and under the direction of a lead teacher.
* A passion for education and helping students achieve their full potential.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is beneficial.
