SENDirect, on behalf of a special school in Thurrock, is offering an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team in Alternative Provision. This role focuses on supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with learning and reintegrate successfully into mainstream education. As an HLTA, you will play a crucial role in creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that encourages personal and academic growth.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a similar setting and be dedicated to promoting positive behaviour and fostering strong relationships with students, staff, and parents. Key Responsibilities:
* Support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to fully engage in learning activities.
* Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the classroom.
* Act as a positive role model, encouraging good behaviour and high standards of conduct.
* Create a safe and inclusive learning environment in line with the school’s policies on health, safety, and safeguarding.
* Establish positive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff, promoting student well-being and achievement.
* Assist with the reintegration of students into mainstream education.
* Provide additional support to students during their time in Alternative Provision, helping them to overcome barriers to learning.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Proven experience working with children or young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
* A passion for supporting students in Alternative Provision settings.
* Ability to promote positive behaviour and engage students in learning activities.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
* Experience in managing classroom behaviour and creating inclusive learning environments.
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task and handle pressure calmly.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
* Relevant HLTA qualifications or equivalent experience in a similar role.
