Care of the Elderly Consultant - specialising in Front Door Frailty and Orthogeriatrics
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust (UHBW) are looking to expand the talented Medicine for Older People teams on both sites to drive an ambitious future vision for Orthogeriatrics and Frailty at both the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital.
The post holder will support the care of complex, frail older people through our front door frailty service and Orthogeriatric service on our Medicine for Older People wards on both sites, Silver Trauma Unit and T&O wards at the BRI. They will join a team of consultants well supported by a highly qualified multiprofessional team. They will contribute to the supervision of our resident doctors, teaching to undergraduate medical students and welcoming professional visitors to our team.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be working alongside an established multidisciplinary team of 10 consultants and 1 Orthogeriatric Specialist doctor at the BRI site, and six consultants and one Care of the Elderly Specialist doctor on the WGH site. The post will be split across Weston General Hospital supporting the Older Persons Assessment Unit (OPAU) at the beginning of the week, with the later half of the week supporting the Orthogeriatrics team on the Silver Trauma Unit at the BRI and with optional Bone Health clinics.
Future developments may include working in new Frailty SDEC Units on both sites and supporting WGH to develop their Orthogeriatric services.
The department has close links with the University of Bristol for those that are interested in education or research.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC)
* Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
* Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
* Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
* Educational Supervisor accreditation
* Advanced communication skills training
* Good Clinical Practice training
Experience
* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in medicine for older people
* Able to take full responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
* Proven ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team and support others to flourish

* Evidence of developing a special interest in Orthogeriatrics and Frailty services
