Join Our Team at Beeding SCBU: Exciting Opportunity for a Neonatal Nurse Deputy Sister in Worthing, West Sussex.

We are a Level 1 unit with 12 cots, providing care for babies born at 31 weeks gestation and above. Out unit includes 2 High Dependency cots and 10 special care cots. We are dedicated to Family Integrated Care, supporting families to care for their babies in preparation for discharge, with continued support from our neonatal outreach teams.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Deputy Sister with good communication as well as qualification in neonatal speciality to join our talented team. As a proficient practitioner, you will take charge of the ward in the absence of the ward sister, providing supervision, mentorship, and teaching of junior staff. You will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of care for neonates and their families, ensuring adherence to trust policies and procedures.
There is a comprehensive Band 6 Development Plan for two years which is due to be launched soon.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide care for babies born for stabilisation, possible transfers, including high dependency and special care.
2. Lead and support the team in the absence of the Ward Sister.
3. Supervise, mentor and teach junior staff, acting as a role model.
4. Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff.
5. Develop personal development plans for staff in conjunction with the ward sister.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Communication
·Act as a role model and ensure effective staff supervision with clinical practice, working with staff and patients in an advisory, teaching and support capacity and maintaining professional competence, authority and credibility. Ø Work collaboratively with clinical nursing experts including Heads of Nursing, Clinical Teams and Practice Development Nurses in the development of expert, personal centred practice.
·Be able to develop, motivate and lead a team by using objectives in line with department, subspecialty and corporate goals
·Provide professional leadership within the department alongside the band 7 ensuring that all staff use evidence-based practise and adhere to the NMC code of professional conduct Ø Be able to demonstrate a high degree of motivation and innovation.

·To contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which he/she works.
·Be able to work in a multi-professional environment ensuring most effective use of all members of those professional teams.

Service Delivery and Improvement
·Monitor key performance indicators, identify trends and take action to maintain levels of acceptable performance.
·Ensure that patient activity is monitored, and that all patient information is entered into the Careflow system.
·Ensure the department objectives are set in line with the Divisional and Trust objectives.
·Demonstrates a growing understanding of cost implications incurred by ward activity.
·Able to assist the ward sister in ensuring there is adequate provision of stores and efficient and economical use of finite resources.
·Communicates to ward sister any issues that may affect the efficient running of the ward
People Management and Development
·Will take charge of the ward on a regular basis, demonstrating the ability to delegate and supervise. Will deploy nursing staff within the team and ensure the provision of skill mix necessary to maintain the patient and staff safety, utilising resources efficiently.
·In the absence of any other more senior staff member, will be responsible for deploying staff as necessary across the paediatric department, utilizing resources efficiently, in order to maintain patient and staff safety.
·Work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to the mutual benefit of neonates and their families.
· Assist and support senior staff in the setting and monitoring quality of standards and auditing in relation to evidence based clinical practice.
·Ensure that the strategies in place for meeting the clinical governance agenda are implemented. E.g. Auditing, monitoring, benchmarking, risk management etc.
·Demonstrate practice-based care on the evidence from current advances in nursing research. ·Participate in audits of standards of care.
·Participate in the implementation of research findings in order to effect change in improved practice.

·Will assist ward sister in undertaking staff PDRS annually, which will include a review of personal and professional development plans.
·Attends and participates in ward meetings and supports the ward manager in cascading information down to the team.
·Attends meetings to represent ward sister as required and makes effective use of established communication systems to disseminate information.
·Understand and follow the procedure for incident reporting and support junior colleagues to understand the process.
·Support and assist the ward sister in handling complaints. Be active in implementing any changes/actions because of a complaint.
·Supervise and act as role model for newly qualified staff, health care assistants and students.
·Participate in education and training of junior staff and students and promote care of neonates within the wider multi-disciplinary team.

·Participate in the induction programme and its further development for newly qualified staff and nursing assistants on the ward.
·Initiate and participate in clinical audit programmes or research projects in the care management of patients and initiate clinical and nursing audits to promote evidence-based change in practice.
Patient Care Delivery
·Manage a group of assigned patients, recognising situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the neonate and to take appropriate action.
·Plan, assess, implement and evaluate nursing care for neonates. Co-ordinate patient care and start planning for discharge from admission by liaising with multi-disciplinary team and neonatal outreach.
·Provide information and support for families, liaising with relevant support services as appropriate.
·Ensures there is a high standard of documentation which is accurate, legible and meets all legal requirements.
·Able to set up, use and maintain all equipment used on patients within the ward and attend training as necessary.
·Recognise and assess emergencies occurring in neonates, children and young people and take appropriate action.
·Able to administer intravenous therapy safely.
·Maintain a safe, friendly and welcoming ward environment for families, visitors and staff and where family centred care is practised.
·Display an understanding and supportive attitude towards colleagues to create a pleasant work environment.
·Ensure clinical practice is research based. Contribute to the implementation of practice enhancements, seeking support and guidance. Take personal responsibility to develop an awareness of local, regional and national objectives, policies and political agenda.
