As a Crew Member, you will provide support to specialist neonatal and paediatric clinicians during TCAA transfers, whilst working alongside our amazing team of Pilots and Airdesk Coordinators. Reporting to the Operations Team Leader for TCAA, you will be based at Retford (Gamston) Airport on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). The role attracts a salary of £33,197 along with our staff benefits package. Whilst the Crew Member role is non-clinical and does not involve direct patient care, the role requires a clinical background to understand the importance of working as a multi-disciplinary team, working in a clinical setting, handling medical devices and to support the safe transfer of patients. Within our current team, we have Crew Members with varied backgrounds from Emergency Care Assistants, Ambulance Technicians, Associate Practitioners and Paramedics You will act as the technical expert for the bespoke TCAA interior, stretcher system and incubator, so you can provide support and troubleshoot any issues should they arise. Job Title: TCAA Crew Member Location: Retford Gamston Airport Full Time: 40 hours (variable 8-hour, 10-hour or 12-hour shifts to provide operational cover when required between the hours of 07:00 - 02:00) Annual Salary: £33,197.68 Closing Date : 18th May 2025 Interview Date : 30th May 2025 (in person, Gamston Airport) Key Responsibilities Internal: The Crew Member will work closely with the Head of Operations, Operations Team Leader, Pilots, Airdesk Staff and will also support interdepartmental relationships with the wider charity functions as and when required. External: The Crew Member will work closely with Clinical Partner Teams (CPT’s -NHS specialist transport teams), hospital staff, ambulance crews, helipad staff, airport staff, and visitors to TCAA bases. TCAA Transfers: To be responsive to tasking requests from the Airdesk including responsive mobilisation Ensure equipment is checked and readily available for tasking Engage and work cohesively with CPT’s and TCAA Pilots (Pre, During and Post tasking) Communicate effectively and problem solve when problems arise whilst closely liaising with relevant teams Support the safe loading / unloading of patients with CPT’s and pilots Ensure patients and equipment are secured safely, checking prior to take off and landing Support CPT’s throughout tasking (ie -fitting helmets, harnesses, etc) Provide support and reassurance to patients and parents / guardians Safety: Follow and advise CPT’s of TCAA Standard Operating Procedures To comply with airfield safety & security regulations Follow and comply with instructions as directed by pilots Provide assistance and support in the event of an emergency Provide basic life support in the event of a medical emergency involving CPT’s or crew To promote positive Crew Resource Management Regular: Work cohesively with TCAA pilots to ensure the aircraft, cabin and equipment is always available and ready for tasking Commitment to training and personal development Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly checks of TCAA Equipment (medical devices, consumables, audits, IPC, etc) Maintain high standards of infection, prevent & control in the aircraft and air base Support with lead roles as allocated by the Operations Team Leader Support with training activities when required Complete administrative and operational tasks as requested by the Operations Team Leader Welcome and host visitors at the air base PR/Media Fundraising: Actively promote the work of TCAA when hosting base visits and any appropriate opportunities Participate in the charities fundraising activities Adhere to Social Media Policy, always representing TCAA professionally Person Specification Education to GCSE level or equivalent in Maths and English, Grace C or above Qualified as Emergency Ambulance Crew, Emergency Care Assistant, equivalent or higher Full UK manual driving licence Evidence of Continuing Professional Development Experience of working within healthcare (5 years) Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team Good communication skills with the ability to communicate appropriately and effectively in person, over the phone / virtually, by radio and in writing Knowledge of The Children’s Air Ambulance, its organisational values, and the service It provides Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people, listen well, communicate effectively and in a professional manner Ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, NHS teams and external stakeholders Ability to demonstrate an understanding for the need of confidentiality and how this can be maintained A good standard of physical fitness to facilitate lifting, bending, and carrying in the process of transporting patients Comfortable in a Helicopter (air/motion sickness not being an issue) Be able to work shift patterns relating to the role (inc long days, weekends, bank holidays, incidental overtime) Be able to be resilient under pressure and to identify when support is needed for self or others Ability to work effectively in difficult and traumatic circumstances Live within 1 hour commute of allocated Air Base to manage fatigue or be willing to relocate Flexibility to cover infrequent shifts at Gamston Base The role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
