Are you an experienced Supervisor / Team leader, ideally having worked in Waste & Recycling or a similar industry?
We are looking to appoint a Supervisor in the Refuse Service based at Carlu Close Depot.
The successful candidate will be committed to supervising and assisting staff to fulfil objectives, whilst giving feedback and ideas on service improvement and alteration.
You will ideally be a good communicator across several levels – colleagues, managers, clients and members. You will have an understanding of how you can achieve the best from the staff you supervise.
You will be good with figures and logistics and have a familiarity with the District. You will be expected to deal with complaints, deliveries and creating new systems of work.
The post holder will need to be flexible as to start and finish times to deal with breakdowns, cover and late arrivals.
A full driving licence is required, a good knowledge of health and safety and vehicle legislation and a can-do attitude. In return, the successful applicant can expect the support and training to enhance their performance and role.
What will I be doing?
Reporting to the Waste & Transport Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-day operations, working closely with the other members of the management team, potentially with some weekend working involved.
Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Supervise the work of the Refuse operatives, drivers and staff on a daily basis.
* Organise the staff rota ensuring sufficient operational levels are maintained.
* Ensure that daily vehicle checks are carried out and the appropriate actions taken and deal with any urgent plant or vehicle issues to ensure safety of the crews and general public.
* Organise and supervise any agency staff where necessary.
* Supervise the dispatch of crew and vehicles on a daily basis.
* Deal appropriately with any missed collections and delivery requests.
* Supervise the return of vehicles to the depot and delivery/receipt of vehicles for service/inspection/repair to and from the contractor.
* Ensure that the induction training for all new operational staff and raise ongoing training issues with the Manager.
* Assist with the assessment of rounds for both risks and efficiency and producing clear instructions for the drivers and collectors including any written drivers notes.
* Ensure all staff are fully conversant with Health & Safety requirements and explain safe working practices.
* Assist with the appraisal of collection crews and carry out return to work interviews if required.
* Assist in dealing with enquiries from the general public.
* Work with the Street Scene Services Management Team to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the service and to provide cover in the team when required.
What are the requirements?
* You must be able to demonstrate a good working practice and be able to make decisions accordingly.
* Working with and managing a team, you must preferably have previous recycling and waste management experience.
* Previous supervisory experience is essential.
* Experience of working within a busy logistics operation involving fleet compliance is also desirable.
* A LGV C driving licence is preferable, but not essential. Good IT skills and previous experience with Microsoft packages is required.
