Police Station Representative/Caseworker – Cardiff

Reeds Solicitors are looking for a Police Station Representative / Caseworker to join our busy General Crime department. This role will be supporting a number of Solicitors and Advocates within the Magistrate, Private Crime and Crown Court departments.
It would be highly desirable if the successful candidate is Police Station Accredited and able to attend the Police Station outside of normal working hours on occasion. The Police Station Representative/Caseworker will be based in our Cardiff office with some hybrid working available after the training period has been successfully completed.
Police Station Representative/Caseworker Roles and Responsibilities
* Assist all Advocates throughout all stages of case preparation;
* Administratively manage a case load of files under the supervision of Solicitors and Advocates including:
o drafting letters to clients, courts and third parties;
o taking clients instructions;
o preparing statements;
o preparing applications;
o written representations, and other legal work;
* Attend the police station as an accredited representative to advise clients;
* Accurately time record for all work carried out on the case management system;
* Assisting with diary management for fee earners;
* Ensuring standards of files are met in accordance with the Office Manual and Lexcel standards;
* Provide the highest level of customer service;
* Undertake legal research and instruct experts when required;
* Undertaking a range of continuing professional development (CPD) activities (if applicable);
* Any other duties as directed by the Team Leader or a member of the Management Team.
Police Station Representative/Caseworker Person Specification
* Police Station Accreditation is highly desirable or must be willing to work towards obtaining the police station accreditation;
* Experience in case working within either a criminal solicitors office or a barristers’ chambers or similar is desirable;
* Ideally have experience of handling own caseload of criminal cases and in particular complex crime cases;
* A legal qualification such as LPC, BAR or CILEX would be desirable but not essential, a Training Contract would be available in the future for the right candidate;
* Good communicator in both written and spoken English;
* Good understanding of client care requirements;
* Must be IT literate and be willing to learn;
* Must be proactive in seeking to assist fee earners and apply a consistent attention to detail;
* The ability to work within a high pressure and workload environment;
* Resilient with the ability to cope with ever-changing priorities;
* Excellent time management and organisation skills;
Salary – £22,000-£26,000 depending on experience
Working hours – Full time, 9.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday
