Salary: Band 3 Hours per week: 30 hrs Job Type: Permanent Base: Stoke Health Centre We are seeking a Band 3 Health and Fitness Assistant with a wide range of health and social care experience to complement the team. You will be working under the supervision of Allied Health Professionals & Specialist Nurses with support of Assistant Practitioners to implement physical activity, intervention plans and other activities which promote service user health and wellbeing. The Community Respiratory Team provides high quality rehabilitation in both an outpatient setting and in the client’s homes for those with a wide range of respiratory conditions as well as other related conditions and co-morbidities. You will provide clinical and administrative support to the team and work jointly with qualified therapists to provide quality treatment for complex patients. You will also on occasion be expected to work autonomously within their scope of practice. Excellent communication skills are essential as you will need to communicate with patients who have complex communication needs, as well as with the Multidisciplinary Team, wider NHS teams and any external agencies. The post holder as part of the wider physical health team will be able to support with: Safe and most effective use of equipment in the gym Exercise planning Corrective exercise Increasing self-efficacy and self-confidence in gym use Support for preparation of community gym use The post holder will work with the Assistant Practitioners & Physiotherapist to plan groups which will support the physical wellbeing of the service users. The post holder will assist in devising 1:1 sessions with the Physiotherapist following referral from the multidisciplinary team to meet specific/ targeted physical or mental health goals Under the supervision of the Physiotherapist the post holder will plan and co-ordinate pulmonary rehabilitation for service users. They will be responsible for managing the equipment and ensuring the safety of all who attend. The post holder will be able to offer supportive advice in line with the principles of lifestyle coaching to service users who may not be able to access the gym/sports hall or who may not be involved in specific therapies for physical fitness, through choice or restrictions and to assist them in maintaining their fitness. The post holder may, with direct supervision from other Allied Health Professionals, contribute to the planning and delivery of preventative health an d fitness workshops to promote a healthy lifestyle. These may be part of Learning for recovery, or as stand-alone sessions.
