Job overview
This role will be to work as part of the ward team to be responsible for delivering a range of activities supporting clinical staff by ensuring a well-stocked, clean and safe patient environment. Your input will assist in accurate ordering ensuring no stock is wasted.
You will also support patient nutrition and hydration by ensuring supply of and offering snacks, support lunch club where able, and assist in preparation of area prior to meals and ensure patients are offered hand washing or wipes prior to meals.
Your role will include regular checks and documentation of these to maintain health and safety on the ward.
Main duties of the job
* To ensure equipment is cleaned and decontaminated according to makers instructions and Trust Standards (e.g. drip stands, commodes, mattresses, infusion pumps) and that cleaning is recorded.
* Monitor the environment to ensure all areas are clean, clutter free and tidy. Maintain notice boards as needed.
* Report any faults or damage to estates and record in environmental file.
* Ensure all soap/alcohol/glove and apron dispensers are clean and replenished.
* Maintain stock levels in clinical area, liaising with material management staff to resolve any shortfalls.
* Participate in the preparation of work areas, ensuring clean and stocked, e.g. sluice, treatment room and cannulation trolley.
* Ensure day room, relatives’ room and staff fridge are tidy.
* Assist if needed with preparation of bed area when patient is discharged, appropriately contacting estates for deep cleaning and curtain changes.
* Ensure daily checks of Oxygen, Suction and call bells are both completed and documented. Where appropriate, participate in running taps to protect from legionella.
* Ensure all meal tables and eating areas have been suitably cleaned and prepared for mealtime and offer patients hand wipes.

The hospital is a busy and dynamic place to work, with restaurant and coffee shop facilities, and gentle wooded and outside areas for exercise at break times. The hospital is situated within easy reach of the beach and many residential areas, and with easy access to Dartmoor, Exmoor and the cities of Plymouth and Exeter, there is plenty to do in your days off.

Person specification
* General Standard of Education
* Demonstrated experience of teamwork
* Previous Housekeeping or similar experience
* Basic level of computer literacy
* English and maths at GCSE level or Level 2 functional skills
* Previous acute hospital experience
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise and organise workload
