About the role:
As a Technical Riding Inspector Team Leader, you will work closely with production, technical, training, facilities and other departments within Northern engineering districts in order to support and implement improvements. You’ll also make sure that the team are utilised correctly in order to work to prescribed standards and business requirements, carrying out work efficiently and safely within the laid down standards and procedures.
As part of the role you will adhere to, review and improve production processes. In particular targeting fleet reliability, by identifying and rectifying trends in performance, investigating and resolving repeat failures, developing and implementing best practice, and providing the relevant technical support to depot maintenance staff.
You will guarantee compliance with all instructions, rules and regulations in force. Inspiring and coordinating the team towards greater development, self-motivation, self-management and accountability.

You’ll need to work a range of shifts, from the early hours of the morning and including nights, plus weekends and Bank Holidays, it’s vital that you’re flexible and that you live within 60 minutes drive from our TrainCare Centre.

This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:
In conjunction with the TrainCare Centre Manager, working to instructions and undertaking work as required
Ensuring the team work to prescribed standards and business requirements, carrying out work efficiently, safely, and economically within safety standards and procedures
Managing compliance with all instructions, rules and regulations in force.
Identify and plan, to ensure the workload is balanced and presented at the correct time
About you:
Successful candidates will need to be fully qualified with a level 3 NVQ necessary to undertake tasks or a recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering. We would also like to see a demonstration of your practical ability in maintenance, repair and overhaul of traction and rolling stock, and willingness to successfully complete further competency training, as required. Training for all fleets and systems will be given and competency assessments will be carried out with our full support as you develop your skills in the role. You’ll need to be committed to providing excellent service through efficiency, high standards and most of all, safety.
What’s important is you’ll need to have a genuine commitment to leading a successful team. You’ll be an excellent communicator and team player who can hit targets and work effectively with colleagues, whilst maintaining safety standards. It is essential that you have experience of engineering and people management, with particular emphasis on railway vehicle engineering and depot production management.

Experience of safety, quality and technical product audits and audit techniques.
Good knowledge of all maintenance and cleaning procedures, or willing to learn.
Brilliant interpersonal and management skills
Ability to read and understand COSHH safety related instructions.
Familiar knowledge of all operating procedures and obtained certification on Rules and Regulations.
