BASIC PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: The District Sales Manager’s primary responsibility is to insure that district sales budgets and objectives are achieved in the area/district thus positively impacting the financial performance of the area/district for PT and FP products. It is expected this will be accomplished through the use of sales tools and policies provided by the Company. The DSM is responsible for developing and maintaining sound customer and prospect relationships and possessing overall awareness of activities happening within the district that affects or could potentially affect Gates ability to sell product in the marketplace. POSITION DIMENSIONS (SCOPE) (e.g., reporting structure, personnel responsibility, decision-making authority, budget responsibility) : Reports to Regional Sales Manager. Has decision making authority within pre-established parameters and company procedures concerning pricing, commercial conditions and technical support. CONTACTS (internal/external ) : Makes face-to-face calls on Distributors and OE’s within the area/district on a regular basis Works closely with Management, Application Engineers, Product Managers, Sales Coordinators and all sales support functions. Works with customers on purchasing and technical level to discuss problem areas or business opportunities. OTHER (% travel, working conditions, unusual work schedules) : Works out of home office or regional Office. Extensive surface travel is required. Travel is dictated by business conditions but usually will be in the field calling on customers, prospects, or working with distributors or other customer personnel approximately 60% of the time. Must be able to perform physical elements associated with the job, including inspecting our products in not-easily accessible locations. SKILLS (manual, self expression, planning, organizing) : Must have excellent communication and negotiation skills, good technical background and be able to use Gates' technical data to make drive calculations and recommendations. Excellent follow-up skills are required. Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently. Needs to possess ability to organize activities and be able to manage and function well during times of unexpected events. Must be self directed, self-motivated and able to work and make decisions with guidelines and limited direction. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE (minimum required): Requires technical degree and commercial abilities with 2 - 3 years experience in the same type of function. Must be fluent in English ability to speak native language of the area/district where working would be advantageous.
