What skills and experience we're looking for
The Thomas Hardye School is a highly successful, comprehensive 13-18 school with a large sixth form and an excellent academic record in KS4 and KS5.
We require a well-qualified and highly motivated teacher to join our English Department. You will be committed to outstanding standards in teaching and learning and have a passion for working with young people.
You will have excellent subject knowledge, with the ability to teach English Language and English Literature up to KS4. The ability to teach either Drama at GCSE, or Media Studies, Film Studies, or Theatre Studies at KS5 would also be an advantage.
What the school offers its staff
The English department is a vibrant and dynamic team offering a wide range of courses, providing all learners with an exciting range of experiences. At GCSE, students follow the AQA specification for English Language and Literature and there is a healthy take up of subjects offered in the Sixth Form. Students follow the OCR specification for A Level Film Studies and EDUQAS for A Level Media Studies.
Students study drama from KS3 to KS5 and there is a secure uptake at all levels. Students currently follow the EDUQAS specification at GCSE. At KS5 there are two options for students: AQA A Level in Theatre Studies and the OCR Cambridge Technical in Performing Arts. Both include pathways to university and further training.
The performing arts department run a vast range of co-curricular opportunities and workshops, investing time, energy and expertise in the students at all ages. Colleagues contribute to three major productions each year and regularly take students to the theatre locally and further afield. We are hoping for someone who is eager to take an active part in the delivery of these opportunities.
We can offer excellent working conditions, and a supportive environment at one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. There are many opportunities for further development through our Teaching School (Dorset Teaching School Alliance). The superb facilities include an on-site nursery and a sports complex with subsidised membership for staff.
