Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer - Industry
WSP's Industry team is looking for Senior / Principal Electrical Engineers to join our team. We work on projects in process industries with a focus on pharmaceutical and fine chemicals, but we also engage with a wide range of other plants including emerging hydrogen and battery projects. We are a multi-disciplinary process industries design team involved from concept to completion of projects. Our core work includes basic and detailed stages, and we are involved in all stages from site master planning to construction completion. We provide our own estimates and proposals to support winning work, delivering designs as part of our multi-disciplinary team, often integrated with Clients. Our safety culture is paramount, especially in the high hazard industries we operate in. Core industry teams are based in Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, and the north-east (Newcastle and Stockton-on-Tees), but WSP has offices in numerous locations, and we offer flexibility in office location depending on the specifics of the role.
YOUR TEAM
* We work on projects of various sizes, often closely integrated with the Client, performing modifications to existing plants and designing new facilities.
* Reporting to the Head of Electrical, the role offers scope for development and promotions within the discipline and the wider WSP organisation.
* We are a small team of professional Electrical and Control & Instrument engineers within the industry discipline, fostering a friendly and collaborative culture underpinned by a strong safety ethos.
* Our team works across several sectors within the industry, providing great opportunities for development and learning.
* We often work with top-tier COMAH sites, gaining exposure to unique challenges and collaborating with professional Clients who value safety.
* We thrive on taking on new challenges, leveraging our experience across various sectors.
Typical Duties
* Input to schedule and preparation of man hour estimates/control and monitoring.
* Controlling discipline hours budget and cost of works on allocated projects.
* Carrying out Electrical design work from 11kV substations to LV switchboards, distribution, MCCs, lighting, small power, and associated electrical services.
* Input into package plant specifications.
* Preparing Installation Specifications and contract schedules.
* Leading CAD team in the production of electrical drawings.
* Approving and checking all Electrical design work on allocated projects.
* Preparing enquiries and technical bid analysis.
* Technical liaison with Suppliers, Package Vendors, and Sub-contractors.
* Preparation of Design Safety Reviews and designers risk assessments.
Essential Qualifications
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-discipline team.
* Experience in electrical engineering design on capital projects.
* Experience of motor controls including variable speed drives.
* Experience of electrical design in ATEX hazardous areas.
* Ability to travel within the UK for site and supplier visits.
* Degree qualified in electrical engineering or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience in design of key sectors.
* Chartered Engineer or working towards it.
* CompEx12 qualification.
* Experience of 11kV/LV fault level calculations and protection studies.
* Use of AMTECH software.
* Lighting design experience.
* Experience within a contracting organisation.
