Job Purpose
The Heavy Equipment Field Technician is responsible for the repair of construction machines, component assemblies, and parts in the shop and field, including diagnosing, parts ordering, technical report writing, warranty reporting, maintaining care of company assets, and proper communication with others. This position reports to and is under general supervision of the Shop Foreman.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
1. Repair equipment and components.
2. Development of a repair plan and sequence.
3. Determining necessary parts, materials, tooling, etc.
4. Performing repairs properly and safely, with proper quality assurance testing of repair component or system and machine.
5. Maintain and complete all necessary reports legibly and in a timely fashion for parts ordering, special tooling usage, daily service reports, and work order closure.
6. Communicate progress of repair with direct supervisor as required.
7. Retrieve & return parts and/or materials through Company’s parts ordering system.
8. Retrieve & return of special tools through Company’s Tool Room. Maintain proper care and use of special tools including major shop equipment, such as but not limited to, air compressor, cleaning tanks, overhead and jib cranes, etc.
9. Use Company vehicle, service truck, and fuel cards properly including notifying supervisor immediately of any issues with the vehicle.
10. Maintain work area and/or service vehicle in a safe and clean manner.
11. Maintain tools & tool carrier in a safe, productive and updated manner.
12. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
13. Other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill, And Ability Requirements
1. Operation and maintenance requirements of heavy-duty construction equipment.
2. Hazards and Safety precautions of trade.
3. The care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work.
4. The use of servicing equipment such as A/C recycler, hydraulic jack, or emission analyzer.
5. Ability to diagnose defects in heavy equipment.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Possess strong and effective customer service skills.
8. Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
9. Display excellent judgement at all times.
Education And Experience
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Associate degree in Diesel or Equipment Technology or four (4) Years of Apprenticeship Experience Preferred.
3. Three to five years of related experience.
